Dark ages ended in 2004. Until then 8 years in a row with a Seiko Kinetic in my wrist every day. Great watch. 15 years collecting watches, with purchases and several watches sold to reach the current collection of 20 watches. No more watches to buy in the horizon, it doesn’t make sense, but still enjoying my collection and watching related content on the Internet.
You will enjoy it, I’m sure about it. To me is one of those pieces that I would keep always in my collection. Pity that I already have this type of ‘dress style’ covered by other pieces. Years ago that Longines would have been a no brainer.
At last, Longines is doing a nice strategy with pieces above Hamiltons, Seikos, Tissots, etc. at competitive prices. You should check their catalogue before buying an Omega for example.
I wouldn’t go for the MOP version. I love the brand and own a regular 356 and a 856 B-Uhr. Both have the DNA of ‘tool watches’ that I love in this brand. To me, the dressy dial of the pearl version doesn’t mach the utilitarian spirit of the 556I. I like the red second hand, it gives the watch a tactical touch. Go for that one. Personally better with a black strap.

Great news, thanks for posting it. Andrew deserves good luck with his new channel. The watch industry has a lot to thank these guys for their great content. They help create more fans than many brands that spend thousands on marketing.
