I always think it’s funny how ubiquitous the smart watch is in todays society but when you watch any movie that’s made today (whether a period piece or set in modern day) the actors are always wearing legitimate timepieces.
Yeah, that red dial is killer! That‘s a gorgeous piece. You hit on my biggest issue- cost. I feel like what they are asking is overpriced compared to similar watches from the likes of Tissot, Longines, Seiko, etc. I think Tag is overpricing due to their name and history. I do not plan to spend MSRP for that guy but I think in the $2000-$2100 ballpark I would be okay with it
From what I’ve seen, if a micro is offering a watch for $2K or more, they are typically offering a higher quality piece than a lot of the major, recognizable brands are offering. This is not across the board, of course. I think it is in part to spending less on marketing, packaging, and wholesaling to dealers and putting more of that cost toward the watch. Also, let’s be honest, a portion of the money you’re spending on a major brand is the name itself. So if you ignore brand, sometimes you can end up with a better piece for that same money.
Honestly, the biggest cashgrabs, in my opinion, are fashion watches. Gucci is one that comes to mind. You are paying for a color scheme and design on a cheap watch that doesn’t meet the quality of the cheapest seiko models.
Had this issue with my Squale when I first got it. It has an SW-200 Elabore. Seems most Sellita run fast from the factory after doing some research. It may break in but not enough to slow it down from +22. Sellita does regulate at their factory but those little movements go through a lot before they reach their final destination. Mine was running at about +20. I opened the back and turned the micro adjuster down one tick and it did the trick. You will need some tools and just a little bit of know how. Now it’s about +5. If I had it regulated professionally it would probably be better. If you’re unsure, bring it to a watchmaker and they will do it right. I promise it isn’t broken, just needs an adjustment. It is a machine after all and it needs calibration.
