I Love a Good Cyclops...

So I've got some watches I really love; my Casio Duro, my Steeldive SD1970, that I really wish my aging eyes had an easier time seeing the date complication on.

So it occurred to me- if people can remove a cyclops because they think they're lame, I bet you can buy and add a cyclops yourself, also. I checked it out on Amazon, and you totally can.

I have two cyclops on the way as we speak, along with some glass glue. I'm gonna try it out on the Duro first and, if that goes well, then I'll add the other cyclops to the SD1970. I think both watches will greatly benefit from a cyclops.

I'm excited at the prospect, at the very least!

I've considered this. Supposedly positioning is a bitch. I suspect you want to frame off the area with masking tape or something.

I may try this on my SARB035 or my old TAG. Truth be told, I don’t see close as well as I used to & it would be nice to have a magnifier over the date!

Send pic when it’s done my good man.

You know, I hadn't considered that, but it's an excellent idea. I'm sure positioning IS going to be a nightmare because, hell, it seems to be hard enough for the professionals lol.

Could be easier swapping out the sapphire for a new one with a cyclops. AliExpress has a few examples.

I’ve done both. I purchased sapphire with a date magnifier and installed it and I also purchased a cyclops and placed on a piece of sapphire that I changed out of another Duro.

In my experience, getting a sapphire with a cyclops is not only easier but the magnification is much better as it appears to actually magnify the date whereas the cyclops that I applied appears to just distort the date as if looking at it through a water glass. Yes, the date does appear somewhat larger but just not as clear.

How about pics instead? 😀

This is the date magnified on the sapphire with a cyclops already attached.

This is the date magnifier that I attached to a sapphire crystal.

Applying the cyclops with the ultra-violet glue can get a bit messy (however much glue you may think you need, use 10x less 🤪), placement can be harrowing (center it off the crown) and have some acetone (nail polish remover) at the ready to clean up the crystal.

Have fun and Good luck! 👍
