You thought right! A window to a very different time not just visually, but also in the tone of the copy. I think genteel is the adjective I want. I find it refreshing.
I inherited my father's Elgin tank with a DuroPower Mainspring, so this is interesting.

I have a 1951 Lord Elgin driver. That's the one with the black face. It's a beautiful little watch.
