Most Polarizing Piece in your collection?

For me, it's definitely my Panerai x RAZER Luminor Quaranta

I personally love it. Gaming is a hobby for me that goes right alongside Horology in terms of importance and this collab brings the two together.

I havent exactly gotten good "Feedback" on this piece let alone derogatory remarks from other Paneristi who say i cant even proclaim myself one of them.

Lets start with the negative remarks ive gotten on this piece:

"Where's the RGB lighting?

"Its not a real Panerai"

"Collabs like this insult the brands heritage"

To all of this: i list the positives for me:

-A 40mm Panerai- finally something i can wear!

-The PVD on the Luminor's case is engaging , esp with the ammount of lume this watch has

-Its stealthy: the only signs it's a razer collab are subtly on the dial and caseback

-It's still a Panerai. End of the day, its an official watch, not a case mod. And suits my tastes. Haters gonna hate lol

My only complaint is the movement: but these days you dont buy modern Panerai's for their Calibre's (Sadly: thanks Richemont)

But what about you folks? Whats a piece that you own that draws Polarizing or even negative commentary?

The Ginault Ocean Rover. Great watch, but controversial to some.

I know once I have the time for a #nwa and a review, this is gonna annoy ppl on both sides of this fence. The "enthusiasts" cuz I mean, I'd agree, srsly LOOK at this monstrosity.

Will prolly get some ire/hate from those that think I might be taking it too far and making fun of peeps that wear these watches.

To both sides I'd say, first and foremost, I like watches. I can usually find something to like even on the dressier/pricey side of the house. Even if the only thing I like, is that YOU who bought it, like watches! 🤘🏻🤙🏻 I'll always dig someone getting a watch.

Here is my polarizing piece, and I LOVE it. Closest thing I can think of, at the moment that would be something you'd find in the Warhammer40K setting.

PS - as my friend @SpecKTator would say, every time this thing gets shown on here, an Angel looses it wings, to which I'd say, yes. Prolly taken/ripped of by a Space Marine for being heretical...🤏🏻👌🏻

I personally Loathe Invicta: But doea it make you happy? Sure looks like it. And thats what counts 👌

Nice Panerai, been looking at them for some time now. Nothing I've posted here has drawn negative commentary....lol! However no commentary speaks volumes depending on what brand the watch is, what's under the hood and place of manufacture. And even if the piece meets 'accepted technical and regional criteria', people may STILL dislike it because the CEO of the company isn't a mason or something. Who knows, wear what you like as they say and let the chips fall where they may!

Image

Yeah, bro. I agree. I have one too. Controversial period. It doesn't matter if some don't care, it's very controversial.

It's too bad Ginault never did adequately address the serious concerns about their apparent past. It was well documented online, but curiously scrubbed since that particular crisis shook down and blew over.

Jody at Just One More Watch did some favourable reviews way back when, which convinced me to buy one, and then just after mine arrived all the shenanigans came out about them having previously been involved in making fake watches came out.

I am too lazy to do anything about it, but I don't wear mine now.

That’s a great looking timepiece on you!

For me, it would have to be this timepiece. Comments are all over the place.

For some reason that reminds me of the legion of the damned.

·

The watch is great and as long as you like it that’s all that matters! The people who have said these are narrow minded snobs which you should ignore. A lot of my watches are “controversial” with no in-house movements which makes them not worthy… but I don’t care I like them all!

·

Mine is not polarising because of how it looks but just because of the sheer size of this thing and if I put it on the bracelet it weighs 1/2 lb measurements are 48/51/16 with 24mm lugs 😯

Honestly I don't care if I don't, it just makes me smile for some reason. I think it's so big it just makes me think I'm a child again, like when my children wear my Gshock.

Interesting too the source of the allegation against Ginault, “deepdweller” wrote anonymously and remains so to this day. Bit of a shenanigan in and of itself…a nameless accuser bitching about someone else hiding their name. Gotta love the irony.

Yeah, well. You and I are hiding behind fake names. As is the Ginault guy. I think the important part was that the deep dive connecting Ginault to someone who made top notch Submariner fakes was pretty convincing. I never saw it debunked.

It made me never want to wear or sell the watch I bought!

·

Wait what? You’re not Shakespeare 🤯. I’m pretty sure I’m SUSFU…Situation Unchanged, Still F’d Up 😆!

In any event, we ain’t (a) making watches or (b) anonymously accusing anyone of anything nefarious.

Deepdweller was making anonymous accusations of something nefarious though. It was certainly a well written accusation, but an anonymous accusation nevertheless. Which begs the question one should always ask when evaluating sources: is this source trying to inform, or to influence? And why?

Are the accusations true? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know for certain. But I do know for certain the Ocean Rover is an excellent watch. Five year of ownership and it’s still phenomenally accurate.

Well, on a balance of probabilities, the allegations are true. Beyond a reasonable doubt?

Here's my most controversial piece, my Lucerne Digital Jump Hour.

Image

Some people like its design. Others think that it's disgusting.

Image

The movement is a one-jewel pin-pallet BFG 582. I have serviced it, but movements like this were designed to be disposable, so its never running perfectly. It works and it tells the time reasonably accurately, but it sure as Hell hell isn't legible. Word of advice, if you like the look of this, don't buy one off of eBay for 200 USD. Some people are asking that much and sometimes more for these Lucernes. This is not a 200 USD watch, it's quite rubbish, in fact. But I bought mine for about 25 USD, which is a pretty good deal. It's a nice little conversation piece and looks very funky.

Image

Thanks! The issue with the movement btw: Feel free to google Panerai Perezcope- Jose Pereztroika is a bit of a seedy character in the world of Vintage watches- but he did a damn decent writeup on how Richemont is constantly downgrading the movements in Panerai's - and IWC's as well- and still charging upmarket prices.

Yes i've heard of perezcope. He constantly debunks or uncovers shady things watch companies hide. The good thing is he supports his claims with data.

In my opinion, it is still up to the customer if they want to spend their money on the brand or not. It is your money and if you enjoy the watch, what does it matter if the movement is "crap" for its price? Value for money is nice especially if you're a thrifty person but it shouldn't come at the cost of your own enjoyment of the watch. If you want to splurge on a panerai because you like it, have at it. Hobbies are meant to be a source of happiness. ☺️

This is mine, a "Jinlery", looks a bit like a ... 🥹. It is in fact a very comfortable watch.

If it wasn't so big... I'd own this

I own bigger

and smaller

it takes all sizes

·

Perhaps most polarizing for those that can't get past the country of origin and those with no experience with the brand.

Bit of both.

But I actually do like it, as a kind of outlandish, over the top, gawdy watch.

Much like the Warhammer40K expanded universe. Over the top, noisy, loud, but still fun.

Then it's not just a "taking the piss" watch. Great! I was gonna say that's some serious dedication to trolling folks.

Did you wear it on the bracelet? It is definitely a very heavy watch but I don't find it moves around at all on the rubber strap.

No I wore it on original rubber strap but still at 200g it weights more than any other SS watch on SS bracelet. Due to rubber strap majority of weight was on watch so not only being heavy in general but top heavy too

I have the bracelet that goes with it but that is as heavy as some of my watches.
