First post! Looking for advice

Hey WatchCrunch! I just joined the app and community. I’d like your thoughts on my situation.

I’ve saved for a Tudor black bay 41. But I’ve also been wanting a Tissot Gentleman and Longines Conquest. Would it be smarter to get the Tissot and Longines this year, and then keep saving for a new Seamaster AT when I graduate grad school?

I think the only reason I wanted the black bay was to be a placeholder for the AT. But I feel that I shouldn’t buy a luxury watch, just because I can and that I should wait to celebrate a milestone.

Wait for the AT …funny coming from me but it will be worth the wait!

If your aim is to get Seamaster Aqua Terra, I would save up and get it when you graduate. Don't waste your money on the BB 41 to just have it as a placeholder.

Get the Tissot and have fun with entry-level watches while you save up. The Tissot is all-around watch for the price and will be good.

I agree…get the Tissot and save for that milestone. I have been very happy with my Tissot Gentleman.

It would be an expensive placeholder and you'd always view it as such. Wait for the watch you want.

First:

I would recommend not to buy Tissot Gentleman AND Longines Conquest.

They are both to similar that you will end up wearibg only one of them and regreting that you have bought the other.

Decide for one. Both are great. Both have upsides and downsides.

Now about Tudor.

So if you want a stealth looking diver watch, it's ok. But you are a student and better save up the cash.

A Certina DS Action Diver would also do the job. For around 1K you even get it in Titanium.

Or a Seiko SPB143.

Or a Citizen BN0200 in Titanium

I would wait with the AT till you made your first steps in your first job. Do not hurry.

I would get the Conquest then save up for something besides the AT. Let me explain.

The Conquest is a genuine go anywhere, do anything watch. On its bracelet, it’s an accurate, reliable and durable daily wearer. With 300m water resistance, you can not just wear it in a pool, you can take it scuba diving if you really want. All that and it is nice enough to put on a strap and wear with a suit to any business or formal occasion.

The thing is that once you are used to wearing the Conquest, I think you will find that the AT overlaps the Conquest in style and function. That is to say, when you get the AT, there is unlikely to be a time when you choose to wear the Conquest over the AT. I think they are redundant in a small collection.

Once you have GADA function in the Conquest, you can set your sights on something more unique, maybe a Speedmaster or PO instead of two of “almost the same”.

Having said all that, if the AT is genuinely the only goal/grail, I would pick something other than the Gentleman or Conquest as an intermediate watch.

Save for the AT if that’s what you really want. You don’t want to regret getting a watch and then wishing you had saved and waited for the AT.

·

Save for the AT. The new 38mm with the colourful dials, date window and updated bracelet is a lovely piece

Thank you for your insight! I ended up getting both the Tissot and Longines. I did that because I had the funds for both, and I knew I’d still pine for the other if I only got one. I also got a discount on the conquest as it was the last one the AD had in stock. They’ve both had their place in my collect with the Tissot serving as my business casual office watch and the Longines being my casual sporty weekender. I hear you on the overlap between the conquest and AT and I think I’ll keep my options open considering my graduation watch since I’ve got some time until then. On the short list is a Tudor ranger, BB58, or a vintage constellation ref 167.005.

Congrats. They are both fine watches that can cover every event and occasion.
