Do people who love watches really think you only need a one and done watch?

The exciting hunt for the ultimate GADA watch and a one watch collection. But what happens when the ultimate watch is sent away for service? As a watch lover myself, even if I found the ultimate one and done, I will still have 1 or 2 watches on the side as an alternative.

I bought a 10 piece watch box and told myself I will stop once it gets full. When It was full, Now I told myself to get another watchbox.....🤣

I’m at 30+ now

Im at 20+ and would like to get down to a solid 8 piece rotation, with about 3 or 4 sentimental pieces, so 12 total.

I said 6 recently on another post, but forgot about a moonphase & a second diver/GMT/field/chronograph.

I have a problem & need professional help. Know any watch sommelier's? 😉🤣

A one watch collection at that point are you really a watch person? Those are the same people that came out with alcohol free beer or decaffeinated coffee,

One watch isn't a collection, it's just a watch. Three watches just give you a minimum viable combination, it's still short of a collection imho. If I had three paintings in the house I wouldn't consider it a collection.

The fact that we are all on this site…. You posting us replying many others silently reading means we will never find the “one watch”. We will never find peace let’s face it we have a problem it’s like an achoholic talking about the when I’ve kicked to booze etc etc. GADA may exist but be honest deep down none of us really want that 😂and when we find one we find an excuse to buy the next watch anyway. A spare for servicing a spare for the spare lol 😂

Honestly could easily cope with just my Seamaster 300 heritage and my quartz Aqua Terra.

Genuinely have to force myself to wear any of my others as it is !!

·

I didn't want just one watch but my current daily wear is the only one i want to wear anymore so that may change my collection

·

I’m a big fan of less is more….in theory of course. I think us watch people aren’t completely sane. I think 4-6 is the perfect spot for me personally

·

I’m definitely not a hoarder, for me, watches are tools, and I’m a minimalist at heart. So I have 2-3 key watches which serve multiple roles and a one in one out policy. Any more than that and it feels a little wasteful having nice watches in storage.

I Am at roughly 16 at the moment, would love to get to a set of 8, 6, or even 4. Its the journey, my friends, and I love being on it with you all!

The ultimate GADA screwdriver...brilliant.🤣

People who love watches will NEVER say "one and done."

I find the term “one watch collection” curious - it’s just a single watch, isn’t it? What makes it a “collection?”

But of course one can be a watch enthusiast with only one watch. I think the only requirements to be a watch enthusiast is that you appreciate timepieces and enjoy engaging with the hobby. I don’t think one needs to be in acquisition mode to be an enthusiast. If you have a single watch that does it all for you, but still like to see what’s out there and can appreciate other watches that you have no intention to ever own, you’re a watch enthusiast for sure.

I think some of the other answers here conflate collecting with enthusiasm. Collecting is a subset of enthusiasm, but certainly not the core of a hobby.

And yes - if I were only able to have one watch, I’d be able to live with my Omega SMP GMT. I wore in ~95% of a the time for about 5 years (when I got my Apple Watch; then all my watches when into the watch box for about 8 years).

Respectfully speaking, I can't speak about others, but I liked watches ever since I was a Boy of around 8 yrs old. Now I'm 47. I just have the financial capabilities to buy multiple affordable watches and I think watch hobby is not only a 5 year interest for me. Oh and I'm watching anime for 25 yrs now 🙂
