Rolex OP black "explorer dial" ref

I took my 2008 36mm OP 116000 into the Rolex service centre today. I haven't found much about this relatively rare black arabic "Explorer dial", but with my receipt the dial reference for this one is listed: 13/116008-13.

Just thought I'd share as this info seems somewhat difficult to come by!

I don't know anything about this piece BUT it is beautiful! The dial is super clean . 👌

The round bezel of the OP compared the straight Explorer suit the dial & that handset. You’ve had me frantically check Chrono24 which does have another 🇯🇵 only one for sale.

Yep they're somewhat rare but not impossible to find!

I just had a closer look at the bezel of the OP and the Explorer and never realised the difference. Indeed I do like the rounded bezel better, I guess subconsciously another reason I gravitated to it!

I have the blue dial, it’s a nice lil watch

Excuse my candor but what's the difference with an explorer besides the hands?

·

I’ve only seen that on a silver dial 34mm OP. Looks fantastic

As far as I can tell, the differences are:

  • Baton hands

  • No "Explorer" text

  • No triangle at 12

  • Larger applied crown at 12

  • More rounded bezel (as mentioned above)

  • Clasp might be different?

Not sure if there's more but those are the obvious ones...

Pretty certain the Explorer has the Rolex Easy Link (5mm extension) similar to a divers extension. Whilst I don’t think the OPs have this

I love it, no hideous Mercedes hour hand!! 😍

Not in 2008?
