Just a little something to break the monotony of all that hardcore collab-talk that’s gotten to be a little bit out of control

Summertime day off so I popped into the Oris boutique for a look around. Saw this: the Atelier S. it was one of their new releases that I hadn’t seen much press about but it certainly was the one that grabbed my attention. I have penchant for more elegant watches.

This comes in a 38mm case, that houses a SW200. It was reminiscent of the Junghans Max Bill. Despite the exhibition caseback, the combination of high polishing, thin bezel and dark dial colour made this look very slim on the wrist. There was a choice of two dial colours a dark green and this - black although there was more than a hint of blue in certain lights. The strap felt really nice and had very noticeable feeling suede lining - I couldn’t help but feel that this would degrade quite quickly in warmer climes. The clasp was a single fold, twin button deployant where the excess tucks underneath - a bit like the Omega style ones. It’s a nice touch because it continues clean elegant lines of the watch itself.

Price was £1600. I didn’t buy it but I thought it was worth mentioning as I hadn’t noticed much chatter about it.

Now I’ll you get back to your regular Blancpain x Swatch programming….

PS I did see them - they looked glossier than the MoonSwatch bit like ICE watches.

Nice.

As you say, it is similar to the Max Bill - especially the handwound 34mm version.

Something like it, but with numerals, is the new Hanhart Pioneer Silva:

Oh nice!

Does the Hanhart have a matt or sunray dial?

I have not seen this one yet. I really like it… stealth elegance!!

Thanks for sharing and offering us a much needed break from the swatch talk🤝.

·

Looks really promising from your photos. Talked to a representative from Oris for the Nordic countries. He said that it was all about fliegers and divers now for Oris. Happy to see something outside those boxes.

·

Love the Artelier line.

·

Such a beautiful dresswatch, worth discussing than the other "bioceramic" Collab

·

Thank you for changing the channel. 👍That's a great looking watch. I'm a fan of Oris. I need to start paying more attention to the brand. I really like the day date pointer. Congratulations on a great pick up. cheers

It’s different from Oris - they certainly have the history in terms of ‘elegant’ watches but more recently the divers and Pro Pilots have gotten more attention

The new (in-house) movements have certainly found their way into those models/lines but the dressier ones seem to have kept the ETA/Sellitas. At least it keeps the price down, I suppose!

Love the Artelier line.

It’s quite similar in design to the LE John Coltrane Atelier model from about 10 years ago

Everything in moderation - maybe there’s a way to mute certain words….😂

I didn’t get it.

The pointer date is a superb watch - great choice of colours/movement/case materials

·

For me it's a miss - IMO overpriced for what you're getting.

Yes you're right. Maybe I called it the wrong name. I would love to have the red on bronze.

It certainly costs more than the Max Bill but I wouldn’t know what it actually costs them to make it and what mark up they apply to it. I would it assume it loses a a couple of hundred pounds when you walk out of the store with it but also gains x hundred/s of pounds in ‘making someone feel nice’ money too.

I think dress-type watches are also more of a niche market than sports/tool watches

I see what you did there 🤣

I was beginning to wonder if anyone would say anything….👌

Is there anyone out there making dials that are Vanta, or Musou or Kiwami black?

I know Moser do.

I believe BOLDR also made more affordable one with light absorbant black paint - you’ll have to forgive me because I can’t remember the model name

Love that Oris!! Got a text from my AD last week about it…I’m actually working on designing similar 😜

That’s a good place to start your design!

When can we expect to see the fruits of your labour?

Are you doing the whole thing or ‘just’ the dial?

Just dial design…still a working progress…

Just dial design…still a working progress…

I bet its so much fun to do that!

You’ll have to tell us what the process was like, when you unveil the watch to us!

Sure!! Watch building is too much fun it’s addicting!!

I bet it is!

I think the more you do it, the better (and more experienced, obviously) yoj become.

It would break my heart to see my first attempt at design - it’d probably look like a back street abortion. From the Middle Ages. Done by a drunk person. Blindfolded. High on drugs. With nothing but a rusty hammer and chisel….
