Nope, it's not a Seiko. Not even close.

And it's very good thing indeed, because this 62MAS from San Martin has qualities that I haven't seen from Seiko in a long time.

like a well aligned bezel, for example.

Or a reliable movement that doesn't drift, and beats at 28,800. It's the PT5000 and I can find a fault with it, beside a crown that is less smooth than what I like.

And then there are other benefits, such as an affordable price, which is pretty much what an original 62MAS was sold for, with adjustment for inflation and currency rates.

And the FKM waffle strap which is oh so much better than the terrible silicone strap that came with my SPB147. The one with its uncomfortable metal keeper and buckle that kept digging into my wrist.

It's better sized for my wrist too, and this makes the San Martin SN007-G-X a very good choice for today.

SM did a better 62MAS homage than Seiko did with the SPB147?

This reads like another level of "This watch, that watch" video where he argued that SPB147 is -in his opinion- better 62MAS homage than SJE093, because by being cheaper and less perfect, it feels more like the original from the sixties, which was not meant to be a luxury item.

Exactly, Seiko quality control has been pretty bad lately

·

I had one of these at the same time as an spb143 and 147.

They are ok, super solid but not anywhere near as good as the Seiko in any regard other than price.

I posted in the past my reasons why I think that the SM is a better 62MAS than the SPB14X.

TLDR: The SPB isn't a modern re-creation but a new watch loosely based on the 62MAS. OTOH, the SM is a re-creation, in size, style, dial, and price.

This is where I have to disagree with you because IMO the SM is a better watch and a better 62MAS than my SPB147.
