Hunting my next watch. Opinions needed

Hunting my next watch. I’d like some opinions on what people think. Here are my pros and cons list Timex Expedition North: Pros: Screw down crown Sapphire crystal Bead blasted case Cons: Only a date (I prefer a day and date) Unknown moment (it claims to be Japanese, but no info beyond that) Citizen Garrison: Pros: Known citizen eco drive movement Has both a day, and a date Cons: High polished case Non screw down crown Mineral crystal Both have 100m water resistance, and are field style watches, which I prefer. They are also both solar movements. What do people think?

Timex. They both look similar. I don’t need to know the day, prefer sapphire and bead blast. But those are my opinions and shouldn’t matter to anyone but me. What matters to you is what’s important.

I absolutely agree. The reason I ask is because I like them both pretty equally. My biggest issue with the timex being its unknown movement. Im just bit too sure if I trust it

I'm not gonna vote, your choice comes down to you.

For me, I don't trust Timex yet. I've always gotten Timex watches before I got serious about watches, because they're easy to acquire at Wal-Mart and usually, the analog models are inoffensive looking. But they're usually quite cheap feeling with bronze cases, gritty, fragile movements and crummy quality and short straps. Obviously, Timex that you get at Wal-Mart and the expedition North are two different critters.

Citizen, generally, is going to make a much higher quality piece. They and Seiko pioneered solar movements, their cases are steel and the movements aren't cheesy, gritty feeling. That being said, I do not have hands on experience with the Garrison. I do, however have an Avion Nighthawk, which is a great piece.

The choice is up to you. Get hands on with both pieces, and see what looks best to you, and which "speaks" more to you.

Since you like both equally, and I don't blame you for doing so because of their design aesthetic, then I guess it will boil down to your intended use case, and perhaps which you speaks to you the most. It's gonna be a thin line to draw. If the Timex says it's a Japanese movement, it's most likely a Seiko NH35 or a Miyota that has a date only. Either way, you can inquire with Timex online, or from their AD, which movement it has.

Go and have a look at them IRL and buy the one where the second's hand hits the marker. That's the real deal breaker for me with quartz.

I want to like Timex better but fauxtina and a silly triangle instead of full numerical indices swing things to Citizen.

·

I really like the sapphire and screw down on the timex, and I like that bracelet better too. But, I'd always choose Citizen over Timex personally. I've owned a few Citizens and countless Timex's over the years and the Citizens have never failed me. Whereas most of the Timex have. I still like Timex, but to me, there's no comparison.

I will choose the Timex for its sapphire and since a date window was too much for a field watch, at least to me personally

Either way I don’t think you can go wrong here. I think most would agree. Both watches are known for good value to cost. It almost comes down to design. There are smaller features like day date and just day that night sway you either way but in general very close.
