Setting Time

How precise are you typically when setting your time and does this match up with the value you place on the accuracy of the movement? Aside from the tech challenge of improving accuracy why does this aspect of a movement matter?

I care a lot about accuracy. I set the time to the exact second. Apart from an OCD issue that I have, for me, I think accuracy largely helps to justify the value of the watch.

I usually set it to within a minute either way. Nothing in my life is down to the second. One day a month I catch a train, even then I'm only looking to be within 5 minutes.

I set it to the second if I'm logging it for accuracy (which I do on the wrist, not on the bench).

Always set mine to the second. I consider the accuracy to be very important.

·

When I wear at watch that has stopped I wind it around 35 times and then hack and set to the second.

How far it strays in the next 24-48 hours before I switch to another isn't something I really care about. Lots of watches and frequent changes.

I’m an accuracy nerd 🤓 . I set my hacking watches exactly with an iPad/iphone app ibased on network time protocol. For non-hacking movements I try to get as close as possible. I use the Watch Tracker app to track the daily rate of watches that are running, when worn and not worn. Knowing the not worn daily rate helps me determine what position is best to rest the watch in (dial up, crown up, etc) to achieve the best possible daily rate. I track my quartz watches accuracy as well. From time to time I’ll use my timegrapher as too to check the movements accuracy.

Why go to all the trouble? Because I’m easily amused 🤣.

Why care about accuracy in the first place? Habit of a lifetime in military service, where split second accuracy was often a mission requirement. And punctuality was the standard…15 minutes early is late!

I’m setting my watches precisely whenever I wind them. If I have one that’s running that I go to put on I may or may not let the OCD get the best of me, which I guess means it’s not an OBSESSIVE compulsion and just a MILD compulsion. I have Mild Compulsion Disorder.

I set it by the second but if I wear it for the week I don’t worry about changing it unless it’s more then a minute

·

I set it for the equivalent time on Pluto, because Pluto was done dirty, and I miss having 9 planets in the solar system.

·

If they stop between wears I set mine to the second, otherwise I will reset my watches if they off more than 30 seconds.
