Would you wear a Dive or Field watch to a wedding?

God is Dead. (In the philosophical sense.) So yes.

(And in philosophical sense, I mean as in the social paradigms that insist on particular, rigid social rules, [ie. Wearing anything but a plain dress watch is gauche], have been superseded by the rise of the luxury tool watch, changing social mores [James bond wore dive watches on rather ratty looking natos straps for formal occasions in the movies, thus helping to shift popular perceptions of just what watches were acceptable to wear during formal occasions, and thus allowing the rise of aforementioned luxury tool watches]. And also, my two nicest and most accurate watches are dive watches, and if I don't have something to fidget with during the wedding reception I'll die from anxiety.

No issue with wearing one at wedding. If it was black tie I would use that as an excuse to buy a black dial skin diver.

·

The groom gonna throw me out for doing so? I don't think so!

Wearing an analog watch at all is already dressing up compared to the majority of people that will show up without a watch or with a smartwatch. But personally I would embrace the opportunity to enjoy one of my dressy pieces that have less wrist time on a daily basis.

I would wear a JLC Polaris or Rolex Explorer. A few others would work as well with the right strap, Oxford shirt, and sports coat.

I've only been to one, and I wore my Hamilton Khaki Auto. Nobody cared. I doubt anyone even looked at it. If someone throws a fit, it's their own fault.

Perfect for the wedding ceremony, honeymoon vacation & divorce court. 🤣

No, not because I don’t think you shouldn’t. I don’t care what you wear. You could have a Mickey Mouse watch on, you do you. The reason I wouldn’t is because I have a dress watch that doesn’t get worn as much as my divers, pilot, and field watches that I wear everyday.

Wore my Seagull 1963 on a leather strap to my nephews wedding.

Always dress for the specific wedding. I once showed up in a nicer dress than the bride and the groom was wearing jeans. I have also been to black tie weddings where I wouldn't dare wear a dive watch or be seen with a date wearing one. However, in our modern age, those are rare... so what is the dress code for this wedding, who is it for, and where is it held?

·

Would I personally? No. Do I think it's something anyone could or should wear to a wedding? Why not, you do you.

Those who espouse the "James Bond did it, so I'll do it too" perhaps are forgetting that it's a fictional character, in a fictional story. Plus, the watches this fictional character wore are paid product placements meant to promote their brand.

The dress watch was designed and made for dressy occasions. So, use the right tool for the right scenario. Wearing a dress watch will perfectly complement your formal attire.

So, for me, I will always wear my vintage Citizen tank to a wedding. Firstly, it's about giving and showing respect to the couple. Plus, wearing a dive watch with this formal Barong just simply looks tacky, unwieldy, bulky under the cuff, and outright ugly, whatever brand it is. But, with my dress watch Citizen tank... I'm simply dapper.

There are US presidents who wore a Timex in office. Nobody cares what you wear!

Hakki,

I think I agree with you. It's an important wedding. I have one dress watch and it's a deep red color. Do you think that's OK or should I get one with a more traditional color?

I'm no expert in men's fashion, but I think I learned quite well from my Navy Officer Dad. He was the one who wore the Citizen tank with his dapper white formal uniform and to other formal occasions and events. So, in your case Bob, if the deep red dial will complement your formal attire, then wear it. I'm guessing it is a fine watch.
