NWA Seiko Alpinist Mystic Forest!

I've always had my eye on the ginza limited edition, but didn't want to pay through the nose over retail for it. I didn't like it THAT much.

I saw someone on WC post this watch they tried on and I liked it immediately. I wanted a daily beater that I don't have to worry too much about to complement my Lorier Hyperion Skyward II. Plus, I don't have a green dial watch so that's a plus.

The texture on this watch is nice to have some extra detail. The gold color seconds hand and Seiko name gives it a little extra contrasting color.

Image

The indices are just the right size. It gives the face a classic, sporty, retro vibe. The dial size is 38mm, which is a nice sweet spot.

Image

It sits well on the wrist and despite being 12.9mm thick, it doesn't seem like a slab.

Image

I've heard of others complaining that there is a gap where the buckle closes and you can see it here. I guess it's not ideal from a looks perspective or I'd it catches on something. It's hour 2 of the watch on my wrist, so haven't had any issues yet.

Image

Overalll, it's a comfortable, affordable, and good looking retro watch. Solid purchase so far.

Gorgeous watch. I don't care what others say about Seiko, their dials make their watches true "bang for the buck"

Do people look down on Seiko? It's my first Seiko besides my Grand Seiko and I wanted a solid, well made watch that looks good. It fits the bill nicely. I agree their dials lunch above their weight.

Just watchsnobs with little or no knowledge look down on Seikos. Among most true enthusiasts and collectors, Seiko is highly respected. The one you got is beyond solid

Fully with you on your review. This one didn't leave my wrist for the last week 💯

Approaching the two anniversary of my Alpinist Mystic Forest purchase. Today I am wearing it on the brown leather strap that it was also supplied with.

That's green? I see that as grey with a hint of green (feldgrau, maybe?). But I see less green than my girlfriend (then again, my Tisell "Explorer" dial is blue to her).

I wouldn't use it as a beater, though. It's too pretty for that.

Is that a grey dial? Didn't know it came in so many color dials

Beautiful! You found it two years earlier than me, nice. Yeah, saw that it came with a brown strap.

Yeah it's green, but like a soft green with a hint of grey.

Yeah, beater is the wrong word. I don't baby my watches, but I don't play rough.

Oh, right! People use "daily driver" or just "daily". "Beater" is one that's either tough or cheap, often both.

Some look down on Seiko, because they raised their prices without the adequate increase in quality: Movement regulation, bezel alignment etc. I don't mind, I'm getting one for the dial...

I'll be lucky to get it, because Seiko likes to throw new models on the wall and see what sticks. So, some "limited editions" really aren't and some unlimited are effectively limited.

Thanks for that correction. Daily driver is a more accurate term! This is a nice watch for the price. Not a tool watch.

Yeah, I heard if the limited edition shenanigans with Seiko before. Comparing this and my Lorier, I think this watch is superior in finish, build, and specs.

Yes! This is SPB243. There is a cream (241) and greenish (245) dial color as well I believe. Don't pin down on the reference numbers 😉

This is a gorgeous watch!

·

Looks great! I have a Seiko with that same clasp. It’s no issue for me but I swapped it out for a strap anyway. I bet yours would look good on a nice leather strap. Great watch.

·

Wow.. what a unique dial. Aweosme piece.

Nice choice. I considered the deep lake, but I have so many blue watches. Can you share a real pic of yours? Have only seen marketing photos.

Just click my profile I have a couple pics in there

Hahaha yeah! That was probably me, I always mention that! Lol. I may buy it again. Such a great dial and watch for the money. I regret selling it for another watch. I thought it was too small at the time since I was used to wearing 42-43mm watches. But now I wear a 36mm watch all the time so I’d probably love this again.

Grab it again! They're still not too expensive, except for the ginza version. I'll do a like shot for my wruw today for ya

Thanks. I was thinking of the glacier one actually, but the commenter above you had the same one. Nice one.

I love the Mystic Forest! 🌳. Kind of washi paper complexity and a mossy lichen sort of green

For me, the watch is an easy wear for any activity, sport, or work.

Scratching it bothers me not a whit. 😜 (My GS worries me )

And the alpinist is also a 200m dive watch 😃 🌊

BTW, Mine has that same poky looking clasp!… but I don’t see it and don’t feel it when I wear it, so had forgotten about it till you mentioned it.

You own some incredible grails, so nice to mix it up with a retro looking GADA watch 👌

God I love that ginza. 😅

These alpinists are a solid, solid watch. Looks beautiful, feels superb, and good value. I'm so happy with it. Going to a rugged kids activity now and feel comfortable wearing this baby.

I'd like a g-shock next. Kids activity and mosers/VC (unless it's an overseas) don't go well together!

I’m on vacay right now and don’t have it with me. (I stupidly only brought 2 watches 🙄)

The Mystic forest colorway fits perfectly with the actual theme of the watch. mine is a slightly odd combo of retro mountaineer, Ginza paving stones and maiko hairpiece 😂

When I’m back I’ll send some pics of my bracelet- it’s got nice scratch patina now and despite looking odd, it’s perhaps my most comfy and looks perfect with the watch 🤷‍♂

·

I love this whole line of Alpinist watches. The Ginza is a grail for me.

·

This is so stellar. Love the texture and the dark tone of the dial. It should be so versatile. A really, REALLY nice acquisition!!!

Also, Seiko and it's case magic making big or thick watches wear so much better than the specs might indicate. It's one of the brands key strengths IMO.

Yeah, snap some real pics when you're back!

Same, still love the ginza and now this. Ginza is more in your face and blingy and special.

Thank you! I'm super happy. I love good deals and I think this watch is a steal at the below retail price it's trading for.

You're absolutely right about the case height. I saw it was nearly 13mm, but doesn't look that at all. I was worried as I bought it sight unseen, but it's great.

·

Welcome to the club. I love this watch. I actually chose it over the Ginza and I don't regret it. I think you are going to enjoy wearing it.

This! I agree, in my opinion only snobs with little knowledge of watches look down on Seiko. Obviously it’s subjective, but I find them hard to beat for the money. It’ always surprises me how nice my Seikos are and how close they are to my Grand Seiko. Not quite on the same level. There is something just special and “perfect” (to me) about my Grand Seiko.
