A morning out at a watch fair…..
It’s Sunday just a little lie in this morning then I’m picked up at 9:00am by my son in law, we’re off to a watch and clock fair.
Now I said to my wife and myself that I’m just going for a couple of straps for a 1980’s seiko chrono rebuild I currently doing ( but having crown problems with) and my forthcoming build around a NH39 in an explorer style case.
I’ve always said I buy watches because I like em and whilst at the fair I’m kinda ignoring the more expensive watches in the glass cabinets as I don’t wanna spend big if you know what I mean….
What I’m really interested in at events like this is the bargain buckets, you know the plastic tubs that used to originally hold ice cream that now contain cheaper watches in poor condition and also just for spares.
Glowing weakly at the bottom of the tub was this Sekonda military style watch, I mean it was knocked about, covered in dirt and human matter, but I fell in love with it’s colour, size (40mm ish) and style straight away, I thought that I could rescue it…
Oh the price £10:00 yep £10:00 and the guy who sold it me said he had put a battery in yesterday to check that it still worked. The battery cost under £3:00 so I guess I got the watch for £7:00 without the battery what a bargain.
Here’s a few pics of the state of the watch during dismantling and cleaning and also it’s got a reliable Miyota 2115 workhorse running it
The crown/ stem was bent so that had to be straightened out and I fitted a new case back seal, then reassembled it and popped it on a black rubber strap.
What surprised me the most is the lume, particularly because I’m really into dials with numbers at the mo, it’s great!
Anyway I just thought I’d share my firstly profitable and secondly very enjoyable watch collectors Sunday…..what do you think?
