Hopefully no one gets their feelings hurt about watches. Interesting take. What is this take based on? Personal preference? Ownership history? How many others have you owned and lived with for comparison? Is it the cliche notion when folks start learning about the lineup that it is “the most complicated Rolex made?” We often hear that from people looking to dunk on them for making otherwise basic watches. One could equally and more effectively argue that is a negative and one does not buy a Rolex for complications, there are other brands that do that better. There is a reason, besides the Yacht Master and TT Explorer that it is the easiest Rolex to obtain. As in no waiting necessary in most markets.
For many of us, if we want complicated watches, we look at GO, VC, PP, or a host of others, but not Rolex. I am a fan of buying what the brand does best.

It’s based on it being the only modern Rolex they have innovated on in decades. The most complicated watch is true, but it’s all done in a way never done before. Hiding the month indicator under the dial and next to the hour indexes, putting a GMT disk in the middle instead of a hand slap bang in the middle of a watch. I got the pleasure of wearing one for a couple of weeks. A friend of mine let me try it to see if I was a Rolex fan. I fell in love with the size and it didn’t feel like I was wearing a 5970 on my wrist. It felt like it flew under the radar. Everyone knows what a Daytona, Submariner and Daydate are now. The uninitiated don’t know what a Skydweller is, though. I love it because it’s an Rolex that shows what Rolex can do if they put their minds to it. Instead of just increasing the size of the Submariner and thinking they revolutionized the watch industry.

I hear you and I do not disagree with the complexity, and I am glad you enjoyed it. Now, let’s get back to what makes it the only one worth owning? For others, they may find it too large and ostentatious compared to their more subtle classic offerings. That is a personal preference of course. Again, I would posit, for most enthusiasts and collectors, it is worth avoiding for all the reasons you stated. It is a cool watch, but the absolutely last model I would personally own; One because it is too big, but two, I do not want additional complications in a Rolex. Sure, they can do it, but again, others do it better. For example, at $15k+, am I going to want a Skydwellar or shop around and get a gold Panmaticlunar that is hand finished and assembled with several cooler complications? It is not even a close competition for me. One is playing in high horology, the other not. It may be the only one you’d buy (and I hope you do), but for others, not so much and that’s okay.
Lastly, one could look at their numerous innovations in movement technology and materials over the last 25 years as far greater innovations than the Skydweller, but of course people can’t show those off.
You're obviously wrong, because that's entirely subjective, as you've also shered your personal point of view, but an interesting point of view nevertheless. I like it too.
Here’s my Explorer 39 beside my friend’s Two tone Skydweller. Both are modern Rolex models but I am definitely not a fan of the Skydweller even though I appreciate what they’ve done with it. I am not a fan of complications for its own sake and its a very thick watch in my opinion. For the price its asking there are many other Rolexes I would rather have because watch buying is very personal.
So wait, you're suggesting people arent allowed to like other models in the Rolex line up?
You're well within your rights to say the Sky Dweller is your favourite, and that given the choice, you'd not buy any others, but it's a bit of a stretch to say it's the only one worth owning.
As it happens, I really like the Sky Dweller, I don't really get the Submariner, and I personally dislike the Daytona, but people can like whatever they choose.

I didn’t say don’t like it, but I also said that it’s the only modern Rolex with owning.

I didn’t say don’t like it, but I also said that it’s the only modern Rolex with owning.

Yes, I spotted that and suggested you seem to be stating that as fact, which clearly it is not.
It’s the most ugly modern Rolex apart from the Yacht Master 2 which lets be honest… could be an Invicta at a glance.
Sorry. True.

Woof, yeah that Yacht Master 2 sure is ugly. 🤣
