Automatic chronograph?

I am on a hunt for a good automatic chronograph watch.

Do any of you have any suggestions outside of the Omega Speedmaster which I believe it is a benchmark for all chronograph…please feel free to correct me here.?

I am also not trying to spend $1000 and more for an automatic chronograph if possible…so i am also open to microbrand suggestions.

Or should i just buy a used Omega Speedmaster and be done with my hunt? —- but i am missing all of the fun knowing that some alternative out there are equally cool :)

Care to write it on the comment for your suggestion?

Speedmaster is hand wound so probably not what you are looking for. You can search for something with a Vajoux movement which would be an automatic chronograph movement from ETA. I believe that is what’s in the PRX Chrono and Omega Speedmaster racing 40mm

Ah yes, the real speedmaster is hand wound :). I don't mind the hand wound....but i do have my eye on PRX chrono and Speedmaster broad arrow

An automatic chronograph for 1000 bucks or less is a little tricky. The Seagull 1963 is a fan favorite and thats typically around 250. You will not find anything close to that level of movement for the price but it does have some wuality control issues at times. Otherwise I would consider a vintage chronograph. The Speedy reduced is a great option or a Seiko Pogue or Kakume are great options for the price and have real history and character.

I feel like a chrono below 1k is going to be a tall order without them using a cheap seagull movement. Farer has a couple of cool 38mm chronos for ~$1800-1900

It's probably going to be a little over budget after import fees but it's pretty close https://en.knot-designs.com/collections/atc-40

With todays prices, automatic chronos for less than $1k are tough to come by. Below that price, you can get manual ST19-powered watches all day long, given that it is a Chinese movement. However, for autos in the most affordable end you’re mostly stuck to the Swiss ETA 2894-2 (and derivatives) and the Valjoux 775x series, and it is rare to find watches with those in the back for less than $1k.

Even microbrands using this sort of movements like Straton price these watches at around $1200-$1300. At that range you could find some decent deals on preowned watches like the Tissot Telemeter or the Heritage Chronograph.

🤔. A less quality $1000 Auto chronograph OR an amazing top of tier quartz Chrono for the same$? So many beautiful Chrono watches in that price range + no fixing, servicing or doubting legitimacy.... My 2¢

wow, this is an excellent watch. I never knew about this brand before and I might consider to buy this one. Do you currently own one from this brand?

about the seagull 1963...is the one with the swan addition better than the one without the swan?
