The minor differences are the reasons we choose particular brands, models, movements, dials, and colors, which, in my opinion, are only fully understood by watch people. Date/non-date, bezels, numbers, hands/style, markers, buckles, and bracelets are some of the elements that influence our decision-making process. For me, I can tell right away if something is a little off and can decide whether or not I like a watch. I'm talking about timepieces that you just enjoy seeing, not necessarily ones you want to buy, even though that is a factor. I think a "grail watch" is simply the ideal watch that you have chosen with all these elements, minus the price.

Watches are like clothing, i.e., super subjective.
I'm confused after reading this. What was the question?
Some things just can't be unseen though like the underpants on citizen divers and the twig and berries on other watches although the old rolex 2,4,6,8,10 dials were the worst for me.
The details, which for watches are microscopic but for a suit would be materials, thread, stitching, fit etc. All the elements that bring it together including the brand and even what the brand stands for.
I try to stick to this selection process sort of:
Cost
Looks
Movement
Warranty
Credentials
I don’t consider myself a watch person, that’s too serious a moniker for me.

Do we like watches because we like them?
