Watches for "polar expedition"

Hey guys, I finally have a topic I'd like to discuss (or rather get help with) with other enthusiasts, as I don't have any around me IRL - and I belie...

I don't own any Bulova yet but all of these were on my wishlist at some point 🙂 I adore Lunar Pilot but currently my crush is on Jet Star. I want to trade my PRX 35 quartz for it, but I don't really know how to sell it, so that's what is stopping me from pulling the trigger on Bulova 😁

It's definitely among my top considerations 😃

Guys, thanks a lot, once again! This is a super helpful and knowledgeable community.

I believe you deserve a proper response for the time you dedicated to my question, so here's my current shortlist and my thoughts on each piece:

  • Hamilton Khaki Expedition - Always wanted a Hamilton field watch, love the Murph and almost pulled the trigger on Khaki Field Auto, but went for 5600 G-Shock, as I wanted a real beater. With Expedition, Hamilton strikes back again, especially for the purpose I want it. I mean, look what's on their homepage:

I like the looks and I like the movement - H10 is the non-plastic version of Powermatic 80, is that correct? And I like the price :-)

  • Seiko Alpinist SPB409 (GMT) or SPB121J1 - Again, I've been considering Alpinist for a long time, I love the looks, especially the limited white GMT. What discourages me here, is the "caller" GMT movement. I don't own any GMT watch yet and I want one, but with the "traveller" GMT function, as I do travel between time zones from time to time and I'd love to have the jumping hour hand + always my home time zone on GMT hand. Spending 50% more on SPB409 vs non-GMT SPB121 without the desired GMT version for me, doesn't feel right.

  • Marathon Arctic GSAR - Thank you @Dallen for the sizing suggestion, I would go for 41 mm, then. What I love about this is the military credit, arctic theme and mainly the constant lume. Hopefully the tritium tubes are not that loose in general, @lla2891 :-)

  • Straum Jan Mayen White - Big fan of the Norwegian origin and this sentence from their website: "An entirely redesigned case and bracelet has been built to withstand the extreme conditions of the arctic, where this watch was born and tested." They look great and I'm intrigued by the LJP movement. My concern is the integrated bracelet with no micro-adjust option, as I expect to wear the watch at different temperatures and possibly over a bottom layer of my clothing. Also, the price is right there at 2k mark (incl. VAT), but it's hard to judge whether it's justifiable, comparing it to e. g. The Twelve.

  • I also really like Nivada Super Antarctic, especially the one with 3-6-9 dial (I like it more than Explorer, when it comes just to the looks), not sure how well it's suited for the purpose, though. Is it an actual tool watch, or just a revived brand and design language, without the credibility behind?

About some watches that didn't make the cut:

  • I already own Tudor and Yema and want something new :-)

  • Smiths - here my "Nivada feelings" are even stronger.

  • Charlie Paris Concordia is a very nice watch and I didn't know them, but in my collection it would be "another" dive watch. While Marathon is also a diver, it has its quirks that separate it from regular dive watches.

  • While I like a lot of Vaer designs, I haven't been able to connect with the brand, somehow they haven't gotten to my heart yet. It's similar story to Monta.

Ooh, Straum is an amazing suggestion! I heard of them before but completely forgot they existed and their origin could be the perfect tie here.

I'm from Prague so the closest opportunity is Scandinavia 🙂

That's also great! But I'm saving my future Hanhart for the chrono, it just has to be a "stopwatch" from this maker 🙂

You're incredible, guys! Zelos is super cool, sold out now, but I still have time till August 🙂

Never heard of Nomadic but seems worth of further exploration.
