Serica 5303 - Is it really that bad??

Hey all!,

New to the community and already loving it.

I'm in the market for a vintage inspired diver that's versatile and fits a 6.5'' wrist. The Serica 5303 seems to fit everything I'm looking for....except for one thing.

For the Serica owners out there, are the issues with the crown truly that bad? Seen lots of folks hating on it due to this, but wondering if it's so bad as to actually skip the purchase. Thanks!

I do not have the 5303, but have had no issues with my Serica field watch.

The problems appear to be fairly widespread, but I suspect the real issue is that according to Just One More Watch they are not accepting exchanges or returns for the issue anymore.

The brand claims the poor movement issues are ”native features”. The owner went on record to effectively “watch-splain” about mechanical watches. They clearly don’t give a f*** about their customers and the quality of their product, they see this as a ”you” issue, not a “them” issue. I would recommend you vote with your wallet.

That's a bummer, since I want one.

I've had no issues with my 4512, apart from a slightly wonky but still totally functional crown.

Man. Didn't realize they're not accepting exchanges/returns. Seems like a pretty substantial risk when looking to purchase.

What a bummer. Have heard from owners on some other threads stating that theirs have been great, and it's been blown out of proportion. This kind of response though doesn't exactly promote confidence or loyalty. Sucks when they're so beautiful.

Yeah, that's what I've heard the 5303 is like from a few owners on here. Seems like crown is a bit wonky for them but by no means unusable. Which, honestly, I'd be totally fine with that. Issue is if it comes worse than wonky and they refuse to exchange, refund or truly fix it. Feels a bit of a gamble atm.

One option would be to buy a preowned example that didn't have the issue from someone trustworthy.

Very good point. Perhaps more from an AD though. Think grey market might be too risky.

Small correction, they are accepting returns (underneath the regular process) but you're out the shipping back to France.  Still, not what I'd be looking for out of a $1300 USD watch.

Exactly - the SOPROD Neptune is clearly still going through some teething troubles.

I‘ll just post this here…

They've got some good stuff on that site - the pink Willard is amazing.

Agreed.  Admittedly, I didn't watch the whole video, but it sounds like Serica is paying the piper for going with an untested movement, as opposed to having built the watch wrong.  There's a reason I like 2824s in stuff; they haven't changed in 50 years.

Whhhaaa?? Had no clue this existed. Wonder how good of a knock-off it is. Thanks for this!

Thanks for the update! Yeah, not great about the shipping, but better than leaving folks totally screwed.

Can’t guarantee anything but I just came across it when I was looking for alternatives, thought it might be useful.

Shame. Such a pretty watch. There's still the option of putting a regular 2824 (clone) in ... :P
