What’s it with this watch??

Happy Sunday folks! I’ve owned the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical for almost half a year now and I would like to share my thoughts on this piece.

After the honeymoon period I’m beginning to find that the long L2L is beginning to show and it just kinda annoys me sometimes. And I want to put it up for sale.

Another thing that really bugs me with this watch despite being labelled as a ‘strap monster’ by many YouTubers, I feel it only works with NATO style straps due to the wide space between the spring bars and watch case. 2 piece straps leaves too big a gap for my liking.

However once I put it on again, the size, dial, and that winding it up action daily just makes me fall all over for it again. I love the history of the brand and this is quite an accurate reissue of the original. And when it’s in my wrist, I look at it and I smile! Until I notice the lugs …

Anyway is it just me or do any of you with smaller wrist feel the same with the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical?

The Khaki Field is a great watch. I own the Auto version and it is a strap monster, dressed up or down. The L2L could be problematic, though it fits my 6.5” wrist great. It’s the most comfortable watch in my collection. I have a 38mm Nomos Tangente and that is really a watch guilty of long L2L.

I fully 2nd your findings. It is a great watch and the only one I still have on a nato. Luckily enough it looks great with that combo.

Yeah once in the wrist it is very comfortable, that sometimes I forget it’s there! Haha that Nomos Tangente and most of their models have long L2L which is what’s stopping me from getting it. I was hesitant about the Hammy too but it was fine when I tried it on at the AD.

I have a 7.5 inch wrist so can't empathize with the smaller wrist L2L issues.

I think every collector should own a Khaki Field from Hamilton. The classic manual mechanical with bead blasted finish is the true God Tier watch.

If you are having issues with the thickness of typical NATO straps, you should try the incredible NATOs from Lorier. They are silky smooth and don't bulk up the height of the watch.

Here's a good wrist shot...

I have found the NDC parachute straps are also pretty cool...

I'm also a fan of the rubber straps if you want to go NATO-less...but they do leave a gap...

My favorite Khaki Field is the black DLC titanium version...it's automatic and has a date window...

I mostly wear mine on a bund strap

But it is currently on a NATO strap (I’m in France 🇫🇷)

I also wear it on a tropical strap and a Marine Nationale. It’s not just YouTubers that call it a strap monster, i find it works with nearly anything I throw at it. A bund or the Marine Nationale will hide potential (unsightly) gaps from the long lugs 👍

Wait till you try the Tudor P01… almost 55mm lug to lug. 🤣

Haha not for my 6.5” wrist. But that’s one unique watch.

I had the same experience as you with the mechanical field. The L2L length is ridiculous and the gap with the case bugged me instantly. There are better (and cheaper) field watches on the market imo. 👍

I did see a Timex Expedition but not sure about the reliability. I like the CWC G10 series as well. But those cost more 😅Here the Hammy with the more wearable sibling

I agree with you on the parachute strap (MN). They’re one of the best straps for the KFM. They fit the aesthetic of the watch design and take care of the lug gap.
