Grand Seiko Shunbun (SBGA413)

Just got this yesterday. I've always appreciated Grand Seiko but was never sure if I'd buy one myself. Long story short, I tried on a bunch of differe...

I'm just waiting for the day we start calling it beige or off-white lime instead of faux patina.

I get the gripe but I think a lot of people are doing it a disservice by simply thinking of it as patina-imitation, it's a design decision that often blends with the colors already on the dial or sometimes even compliment and contrast with them completely.

For Christmas I bought the Tudor Black Bay for my father, the new overhauled model with the red bezel and 5-link bracelet, it's a gorgeous watch and the beige lime goes perfectly with the warm tones or the red bezel and gold hour markers.

It goes perfectly together in my opinion, overall it gives off this warm presentation.

To me it just wouldn't look right with sterile white lime and a heat-blued seconds hand.

Beige lume would look totally off on my own blue Black Bay 58 however, simply because the bezel and dial have this colder navy-blue tone with cold and sterile-looking steel hour markers.

Interesting write-up though, I totally get where you're coming from even though beige lume doesn't bother me at all 🙂

I definitely prefer the 2nd image with the muted colors, tones are so nice.

Amazing shot!

Man I think it's important to go through a few senseless, inexpensive watches to really find out what you like and what you don't like.

I've caught myself learning about a watch and thinking I'll love it, everything just seems perfect until I try it on, I start to realize I don't like super thick and heavy bracelets or watches with certain proportions.

It's better to make those mistakes with straps or inexpensive watches than it is after saving up for 5 years to buy your grail only to realize it feels or looks awful on your wrist.

A while ago, I bought some straps for my Grand Seiko, I love the bracelet but wanna put some fancy straps on that thing once in a while to change it up a bit.

I got some amazing Delugs straps and wanted to try them with a deployant buckle, it just seemed so right to me.

I mean, deployant buckles on bracelets work just fine, it should be the same on a nice leather strap and it just looks so cool to me.

But oh boy, I was so wrong, I wore it in the strap for a while but it just felt and looked a but off to me, I couldn't get the perfect fit and the underside just felt too bulky, after a while I replaced the deployant buckle with a normal traditional Delugs buckle and the difference was night and day.

It's just one of those things you learn over time by trying different stuff.

When I first got into watches I was really into oversized watches, I couldn't see myself wearing anything under 40mm, now I'm almost the complete opposite, then small watches are my favorite.

I'd have regretted it deeply if I bought a 45mm Panerai after saving up for ages only to realize I didn't actually enjoy wearing it after a while.

I've heard about a lot of people saving up for that Rolex Explorer they've always wanted only to end up regretting it shortly after.

TLDR:

I've never subscribed to this whole "just save up and buy your grail" attitude because it will probably end up being a big mistake. I think you have a pretty healthy attitude towards this hobby and just keep doing your thing.

Your tastes will change dramatically over time but that's alright, most of us have been through this same journey.

Agreed!

The dial and movement are definitely aligned, I suspect the stem is broken and entire movement is rotated along with the dial.

Probably a low quality stem, QC oversight.

Should be a fairly simple fix if this is the case.

In my opinion, this is the coolest modern Tudor.

I think people have been sleeping on this one!

To me, this has always been Tudor's answer to Rolex's Explorer, a classic watch but with an even more hardcore and modern tool-watch aesthetic.

I think the black and yellow color combination is perfect and I love the font used for 6 and 12.

I desperately want Tudor to bring this model back!

Slim it down a little and make a few size variations, refine the design a little bit:

I'd personally love to see them experiment with a bigger date window and a unique font for the date.

The North Flag is so cool and has so much potential, I don't want Tudor to go down the path of Audemars Piguet, just making slight variations of the same watch and milking it dry.

#BornToDare remember? 🥺

Either one of these.

I think the Stowa has a slight edge when it comes to legibility.
