Watches in London

I’ll be staying in London for a few days. Are there any interesting places for us watch enthusiasts? I’m thinking more along the lines of microbrand stores or vintage shops, as I’m not really interested in luxury brands or watches I can find anywhere. Are there such places? Thank you

You might want to try Hatton garden. It’s known as the jewellery sector. I’ve not been myself for watches but imagine there would be something worse seeing!

Mr. Jones Watches and The Camden Watch Company spring to mind.

Go to new Bond Street for the big brands. When you get to the bottom hang a left and about 30 yards on your left is the entrance to the Burlington arcade, lots of cool shops and also shops selling pre-used so good to pick up something unusual. If you have a half a day to spare jump on an Uber boat at Westminster bridge and head down to Greenwich to go to the observatory and you will see the Harrison clocks. Friking stunning! Before you go down new Bond Street nip into Selfriges 1 st floor. In there on the first floor is a load of everything.

I was just there about a month ago, and all of those small shops, for the most part are selling vintage Rolex, interesting if you are in the market for those, but doesn't seem to be what @xndrit is looking for. Same with Selfriges, all the big players. I will also recommend the British Museum, to see the watch and clock rooms, which include some George Daniels stuff:

Maybe try to get an appointment at Christopher Ward if you’re interested in their pieces.

Christopher Ward, Marloe and Bremont are all within an hour’s drive of London.

Baltic have a showroom just off Bond St IIRC

·

Lots of good mentions already. Vertex also has a small showroom with regular business hours

Is that the British museum? The Science Museum has a very similar presentation of rare historical pieces including George Danials, Roger Smith etc,

The Science Museum has the The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers exhibition, but I didn't have time to get there

Grays Antiques Market which is near Bond Street Tube has a few watch dealers selling varied things. It’s quite a big place also selling art, jewellery and collectibles. The Antique Watch Company on Clerkenwell Road has a small shop but unfortunately now you have to book and appointment so it’s not great for casual browsing. But yeh do have a web site so maybe worth checking their stock. This place isn’t far from Hatton Garden.

Also if you like getting off the beaten path Silvermans on the Mile End Road are the owners of CWC and they in the heart of the east end have a small room in the back of the shop just devoted to the brand, and I mean a small room😀
