First Post, Not Starting at the Beginning

I've been anxious to get things going for myself here, but…stuff. What I'm kicking off things with here is actually my most-recent purchase, and for a reason: this watch has forced me to seriously re-evaluate my entire collection – not necessarily in the sense of "yikes, I have to ditch these things, stat!", but in terms of what counts most when I reach for something to put on the wrist. This watch was part of Seiko's SUS series in the mid/late-1990s, and the interesting thing about that series, besides what inspired it (there's a W&W piece that does a decent job covering this) it created a watch that continues to get fawned over for its high-spec 4s15 movement. But after getting hold of this particular SUS chronograph, I have to wonder: was something overlooked?

The Big Things: A case diameter of 36mm, but what mixes things up here are what I can only describe as "hooded" lugs: what you're looking at here isn't an end-link, but an extension of the case itself, rather cleverly designed IMO, and making the 36mm diameter "wear" slightly larger than one would expect. Furthermore, the curvature of the lugs make for a wonderfully form-fitting taper on my 7" wrist. I've never, ever, had a watch fit me this "classically." Then there's the dial: I'll let the link I included do the talking here, but suffice to say I don't believe Seiko has since hit the mark so well; we need a Recraft of this, and hopefully not overly messed-with.

That's a really cool watch! Super useful!

A very cool watch! Interesting case design where it meets the bracelet.  Not seen that before?

And I'm liking that enormous seiko clock (?) in the background?

Yes, the clock: Shortly after getting hold of the chronograph, I was watching an old Urban Gentry video where TGV was talking about some of the clocks on display in his (then in Queens, NY) War Room. Among them was Seiko's table/mantel World Clock. I'd always wanted one, but what held me back was the heavy amount of gold and brass in the thing (which TGV wasn't too crazy about, either), but after watching this I hopped onto eBay just for a casual look-see. Sure enough, there were plenty of examples of the clock, all in pretty-much the same finish…except one: instead of a gold/brass housing, this one appeared to be housed in a black lacquered wood of some sort, with a silver casing floating behind a glass pane – no blingy gold or brass in sight. Better still the details on the dial were more up-to-date, both in terms of the font used on the numerals and lettering, and geographically: Peking was now Beiging, Bombay now Mumbai. This version of the clock clearly came later than the others on offer, and the look was irresistible. I instantly bit on it, and weirdly enough I believe I was only one of two people to bid, and ultimately won. Looks much better in-person, as it were, than in either the pictures on the 'Bay or any I can take.

I have never seen such a thing. Very interesting and I will now try and find those you tube videos!

I'm thinking of a watch brand related clock for my office but of a more modest size!

Your one is a feature piece really! Very impressive! Thanks for the info!
