Sunday Swapout: A Healthy Exercise?

I think I’ve finally admitted to myself that I have too many watches… I’m sitting between 22-26 (depending on how you count).

With that, I’m trialing an exercise where I constrain myself to a two-watch rotation each week, with a Sunday swapout.

My rules:

  • Two watches are the absolute limit

  • One should be Smart, and one Casual, to cover all bases

  • Think critically - does [x] watch spark joy? Am I enjoying wearing it every day? Is there a scenario in my week where one of the two watches isn’t appropriate? (I plan to sub out the Smart watch for the Casual when I get home from the office). Will I miss [x] watch when it’s time to rotate? Do I find myself thinking about / craving other watches (that I either own or don’t own)?

The first week saw me pick my 1991 DateJust, and my MN23 FXD. Both were an absolute joy to wear, and I felt sad to put them back in the watch box. So big tick for both of them.

This week it’s the turn of my 1951 OP, and early 2000s mid-size Seamaster - how will they fair?, let’s see.

I don’t know what size collection I’m aiming for (perhaps somewhere in the 5-8 range), but I’m hoping this exercise will bring some clarity.

What do the Crunchers think? Do you have any rules in place to keep yourselves in line to try and control your “passion” :D?

I have a few seikos and my plan was to get a watch covering all the movement types from Grand seiko, but I've already broke that rule buying two manuals,so I've a quartz and spring drive to go,but will it end probably not 😬that vintage op is beautiful my friend 👌♥️

I have to ask.... 22-26 depending on how you count?

Are there different ways of counting? I was only taught one way 🤦

Thanks! So many good vintage gold Rolexes out there (and not too expensive compared to other pieces). Good luck on your GS quest ✌️

Oh you know, Casios, whether a watch is yours vs. your wife’s / son’s etc 😄

I agree with you…..I had 30 and sold off 22 of them; don’t miss any of them surprisingly

That OP is dead gorgeous!! ❤️

·

Spoilt for choice…. of all the problems to have it’s not the worst.

You’ve got some really nice watches (that seamaster for starters 👌🏻😍👍🏻) Goodluck
