Hesitated and now the watch is gone

I had been eyeing this one ( GL0259 the two tone ) for a while , loved the dial and everything about the watch . Watchgooroo an authorized dealer for Glycine on eBay had plenty ( around 7 or so ) in stock so I thought I would have some time to buy it since I just bought that omega. Sadly those went out of stock, then I checked Ashford and I saw that it was in stock and said to myself that I would buy it in a couple of weeks , that was 4 days ago and the stock is gone. I wrote to Glycine themselves and they told me this “ Good day.Unfortunately, this model is out of stock. A reproduction is not planned for this year. You can find our models online on the following websites: Amazon, Ebay, Chrono24, Ashford, Gnomon Watch, Costco, Jomashop, GSD Global…. “ I called ashford and watchgooroo and they are telling me they don’t know if or when they will get it back in stock . Now my only option is to go my second option and pick up the all black ( GL0269 ) before those run out too I guess … although my first choice was the two tone because if contrasts better with the silicone strap ( which I already have and yes I photoshopped into the two tone to see what it would look like lol ) and I wanted to avoid the PVD coating since I had heard mixed reviews

So if you come across one for sale in a reasonable price ( the two tone was selling for like $330 brand new ) please let me know .

Secondly what has been your experience with Watchgooroo ( EBay ) and Ashford when it comes to product being restocked , have you seen it happen ? Or is it not very likely ?

Thirdly if you have any experience with Glycine or based on your overall experience with watches what is your take from their response ? This watch came out in 2021 so do you think it’s being discontinued ? Should I wait and see if this pops up in stock somewhere for a decent price. ? Right now Gnomon watches has it for over $600 and a dealer in UK has it for like $537 prices that I think it’s just not worth and they are also outsides of the us which may cause import duties etc .

I guess the moral of the story is buy the watch and worry about fighting with the wife later ! Lol

If you read all of that I thank you for your time and I look forward to reading all of your responses

If you REALLY want it, and the price is amenable, buy it when you can get it. 💯

·

I think the black one looks really good too

Stick the model number in your search I. eBay & save the search, you'll be notified when one comes up for sale.

Don't rule out buying used either, you'll save a bit & give you more options.

Nice looking timepiece, good luck mate 🤞🏻👍🏻

I've owned multiple Combat Subs and enjoyed every one of them. Great watch, great specs, tough as nails, and very competitively priced! If this is a 2001 model odds are it won't be restocked, but Glycine makes a lot of products and does a lot of turnover, probably not exact but something more or less like this will come back into the catalogue in the next year or two if you can wait. Personally I'd skip the PVD one, I think their PVD cases are one of their weaker areas, but that's just my take. Watchgooroo and Ashford and the rest are fine, they're massive so working with them is like working with Pepsi or Honda, their customer service is adequate but don't expect a personal touch or any above and beyond. People who like Glycine tend to LOVE Glycine, I'd look for used options, collectors will be more likely to help you find the watch that's just right for you. Good luck and enjoy!

Yes , it’s my second option but the contrast of the two tone with the black silicon strap was what made it my first choice, if I can’t get the two tone I’ll settle for the all black

Thank you for the advise ! There’s one in eBay used but selling for $500 which is kinda crazy lol

That’s a beautiful one you have there ! I considered the bronze alternative since I think it looks amazing but ended up falling in love with the two tone . Right now I can’t find one anywhere there’s one used in eBay but they are selling it for $500 which is crazy . Maybe there was a type but this was a 2021 model not 2001 I actually just got a response from Glycine saying they are not discontinuing it but they are not reproducing it again this year , whatever that means

My concern is also the PVD coating , in a lot of brands it tends to not be so good and I just prefer the natural metal without any coating , as an alternative if I can’t find the two tone I might buy the all black to scratch that itch for now and sell it once I’m able to get the two tone

Oops, yep, I meant 2021, haha. Anyway, from my experience with them what they're telling you by saying it's not discontinued but not currently in production is that right now they are done producing that model for this release cycle. Next year/annual release cycle when they do their annual tweaks and updates they'll release the newest version of this watch, it'll be two-tone black dial with black bezel but maybe not a 3/6/9 dial, or maybe a gloss dial instead of texture, or maybe the date will be at 3, etc, or maybe it'll be exactly the same, you never know with Glycine. But fear not, a two-tone black dial/bezel Combat Sub will be available again, just not for a little while.

How about this?

You snooze, you lose.

I was travelling in Europe a long time ago and saw a watch in a shop window in Villach, Austria. My wife, then girlfriend, asked me why I didn't buy it. I said Tissots were all over Europe and I'd think about it and buy it later in the trip. Never seen that exact watch again in my life.

If it calls to you, pull the trigger then and there.

Is guess the one good thing about this is that I learned that lesson , like you said if it calls me I’m pulling the trigger

Check out Gnomon watches, they have combat subs available! Their prices may be a bit more expensive but they may allow you to bring the price down if u show them some lower prices of previous combat subs you’ve been eyeing on. I don’t exactly know how that function works as I’ve only been to their showroom in Singapore and have never actually bought from them, but I think it’s worth the shot

I tried it , I sent them an email about it and they said the most they can lower it is to $537 which is still like $200 more even though they can see Ashford just had it for $330 but thanks for the recommendation !

I find this particular glycine rly lovely as well

I have the blue dial version of this watch (GL0416) and got it and two others from Ashford - a Hamilton KFA and another Combat Sub. Good experience with all orders. It is available now on Gnomon, but at almost twice the price as Ashford. (https://www.gnomonwatches.com/products/combat-sub-42-vintage-bi-color-ref-gl0259) I would just set an eBay search alert and go back to Ashford every few days - it may pop back up soon there. Can't go wrong with a Combat Sub and lots of color combinations.

Oh my gosh yes ! I just saw it same exact layout as the two tone but in blue ! Honestly I prefer the black dial two tone but this I think is become my close second , I might have to snag this one instead . Since you own it what is your review on it so far ?

Yeah the think that kills me is that it’s double the price sadly on Gnomon and I see that’s lovely that you own that blue version , yeah I’m wondering because I spoke with Ashford like 3 times and they are telling me they really have no way of knowing if they’ll get it in stock again or not and I contacted Glycine directly and they said they are not discontinuing it BUT they said this “ This model is not discontinued but currently has no reproduction planned. “ so I don’t know if I should buy the GL0418 which is the exact same but with the blue dial or wait to see if the GL0259 shows up again . There’s not many left of the 0418 and I don’t know when or if the 0259 will be back so I’m stuck trying to decide if I should settle for the blue or play the black one comes back in stock lol

Yes, I've been there - looking at a certain watch, not ready to pull the trigger, then its gone when you are ready. If you can hold out on the black dial, I would imagine there are collectors that may be moving it in and out of their collection. Also check out Chrono24 - a couple of listings for it, but also twice Ashford's price. Or, you may just want to get the blue dial until its available again. Based on ebay and Chrono24, I don't think you'll lose much money at all selling the blue one later once you find what you want.

·

I’ve felt like this before……it’ll wear off, you’ll find another wonderful watch to pursue. No worries mate 🍻

I’m seriously considering getting the blue one while I wait for the black one and then selling it , since you are familiar with it then maybe the value will hold

Glycine way exceeds my expectations every day

Hi, have you tried on Amazon? Glycine sells there. I recently bought an Airman on Amazon and I didn’t have to pay import duties.

·

So I am a Glycine fan and an Ashford fan.

I think Glycine represent great value at the deep discounts that can be had e.g. at Ashford.

Ashford do seem to have a rolling stock of Glycine’s but some do pass through and don’t come back e.g. I am hearing that the Chronograph below may be discontinued and certainly after a flurry Ashford has not had them for a while.

Fingers crossed you find one you like and sorry if your hesitation has missed something unmissable!

Just a p.s. the Combat Sub wears really well because of the thinness and the curvature of the lugs. Your wrist is only slightly bigger than mine and it’s one of my favorites for size/comfort.

Good luck
