What's for dinner?

Let's get off watch talk for a second and talk about cooking. Who doesn't like to eat? When we're home on Sunday it's my dinner to cook. I cook comfort food. Most times it's BBQing. When it's cold it's Mexican food.

Summer is coming to an end with Labor Day a couple weeks out. It's sunny and hot here in Northern California (Sorry SoCo I hope your staying dry and safe.) and it's a perfect day for some BBQ. So here's what's for dinner at my house this Sunday evening. Smoked Tri-tip, chicken, smoked Mac and Cheese, Broccoli and a fruit salad.

So tell me what do you Q up or cook on the weekend?

Oh man, I love smoking pork butts. A labor of love, all manually done, with charcoal and wood & an offset smoker. That's more of a special occasion thing, so in the meantime I love to grill anytime I can and because I'm a hobbyist woodworker, built a grill station with a gas stove top, grill (of course), and wet sink.

Grill when weather permits most weekends.

Truth be told, I do almost all of the cooking.

The misses accepted long ago I'm just better at it.

...& she's perfectly fine with that.

She is a -much- better baker though. Cookies, cakes & pies are her domain.

That BBQ looks legit.🍺

Looks delicious. Now I’m hungry. Thanks a lot, Craig!

I like gas grilling only because it's quick. Gas after work works perfect. I like to do the whole wood smoking but I don't like the volume of time it takes. I'm kinda into the pellet smoking at the moment because it's easy and fool proof. Sometimes I break out the old Weber and grill with charcoal. I guess I like Qing. 😂

I am the family cook, I like to prepare the sort of dishes that you would find in any Chinese eatery any place in the world outside of China, in Chinatowns where folks needed to adapt old country recipes to the produce and even spicing available in their adopted communities. Pork cheeks with snow peas and celery pan fried with oyster sauce sounds authentic but uses ingredients available easily in Canada. Braised pork belly with pickled mustard greens is a favourite when my daughters visit along with flank steak sautéed with broccoli florets. My wife is less of a fan but I also enjoy making diner comfort food such as Mac and cheese using the best aged cheddar from Quebec or a meatloaf from a recipe that was passed along to me from a diner operated by Greek brother and sister and their spouses who were former clients. On Saturday we headed out to a busy Hipster French bistro for lunch, heavy on the salt and butter but delicious, most of the serving staff and lunchers sported tattoos. Did not spot any watches of any description.

Come on over. My doors are always open for family and friends on Sunday dinner. All I ask is for is a head count a couple days early so I can plan accordingly.

·

I love cooking. I spent most of my weekend driving, over a thousand km.

But I picked this up: I’m pretty excited to start cooking with it.

I would do more cooking if I could. But I get home later than the wife. Those Shish Kabobs look tasty. Great job.

That knife looks like it was worth the drive. Great pick up. Who doesn't love a really good sharp knife.

I'm the designated "chef" in our house.

The adult kids come over every other Sunday and I do a protein & a side. Above was this week's: a corned beef & mashed potatoes.

I'll post some other pics when I can get the photo roll to cooperate

We do the same. All of our children and friends are welcome when we're home on Sunday. I like your presentation. I don't get the fancy unless it's a birthday or Holiday.

Oh man, I love cooking and I especially love cooking over real fire outside. Problem is I live in a soviet era block of flats so no garden for us but every summer my family goes on vacation to a rent-out house in a more rural area, and we take care of all the accumulated caveman needs there.😄

We also do a yearly gettogether with friends, and usually Im the cook at those times also.👨‍🍳

By the way, I am an analyst but I had a pasta factory for over 20 years. So as a former italian pasta producer (and wine seller in a swiss luxury hotel) I can cook other stuff too 😛

We need to get behind a grill or the kitchen, talk watch and make a great meal.
