Should I buy?

I was surfing a local sales platform on a lazy Sunday evening and chanced upon a used Omega Aqua Terra (ref: 231.10.42.21.02.003) in very good condition and at looks like a decent price of about US$2200. Comes with the box and partial papers (missing warranty card). I usually follow the adage “if it’s too good to be true, it usually is”, but in this case it’s well priced at a great condition. Too good to be true would be below $1000. 🤣

So as usual, you start making a list of in your head as part of the decision making process, and the more you think about it, even though you don’t need a new watch (let’s be honest, no one in here NEEDS a new watch), your brain starts making you think you need to get it and starts making up reasons to buy. So I’ve decided to bypass my brain and let my fellow Crunchers decide for me.

Some points I’ve considered:

For: Good price, I can afford it immediately, great condition, it’s an Omega, has box, I quite like the dial colour and texture

Against: No full papers, actually thinking of getting a luxury diver, would prefer a dark coloured dial

What you vote might or might not affect the final outcome. This is just a bit of fun, please don’t take it too seriously. 😁

I’d maybe skip a $2000 impulse buy. It’s not what you were looking for, so that just adds a watch to the box and puts you $2000 further away from the diver.

No, no, no...

I have A LOT of experience with Chinese Super Reps. I've purchased something like 50+ as gag gifts for friends and family over the past several years.

If a watch does not come with papers, then it is almost 100% certainly a fake.

With Omega METAS certification, you can input the information on the METAS card, and bring up the watch you are holding in your hands, and its testing performance, etc., etc.

Don't spend $2,000 on a fake that only costs $400 if you know where to buy the right fakes!

Thanks for the very sound advice!

Thanks for sharing! Plus this model isn’t Omega METAS certified, so you check online.

Do not settle and certainly avoid it if the price is too good to be true.

Thanks! Yes! I’ll take that to heart!

Do your research on the seller. If they’re the real deal then why not?

·

If your initial target is the luxury diver, a $2000 impulse buy won't do you any good

Thanks! I'm leaning towards not doing an impulse buy. Ha ha!

Gimme the money (half serious)

But honestly if you can afford it & you want it

Go ahead

If it's too good to be true

It'll be a harsh lesson to learn

Thanks all for your valuable inputs! Love this community!

Be purposeful with your purchases and get your diver. Too many people just say follow your heart but the heart can often be easily mislead.

Never do impulse buys my friend.😎

How's the seller feedback? Buy the seller as the old adage goes...

If you want the diver, go for that. Which ones are you considering? I went through a luxury diver phase and ended up not getting anything.. I went deep on it, happy to share if interested. Baltic aquascaphe, blancpain bathyscaphe vs fifty fathoms and the ocean commitment, skipped the usual Sub/Tudor options,.
