Casio G review

Hi all,

This is my first watch review and its the G -Shock GBD 200 -2ER to give it its full title

Image

Its a semi smart watch with quite few function especially for the sporty people out there. I am more a couch potato at the moment but I do use a few of the functions.

Image

For those of you people I see in the park running and jumping and generally making me feel inadequate, it has lots of workout timers and apparently can link to Strava. I don’t use any of these functions of course, but if it did monitor the amount of arm raises when I drink wine at the weekend it might shame me, mind you the racket when I empty my recycle bin full of bottles does that already.

As for the dimensions, its 45.6 diameter and 13.8 thick and its 48 lug to lug. Luckily its only 59 grams which assists in those wine raising exercises I do.

When you first get this watch you have to set up a Casio account and download an app for your phone. This I imagine for most of you tech savvy people out there will be a breeze, for me it was a pain but I got there in half an hour

Image

It has most of the usual Casio functions like timer, stopwatch, dual time and 5 alarms. Never used 5 alarms in my life but mind you I do have 3 alarms to get me out of bed. One to wake me, one to tell me its time to get out of bed and the last to tell me that if I don’t get up right now my boss might be having stern words with me.

It has Bluetooth that syncs with your phone and updates so the time is super accurate. On the app you can easily change world time, alarms etc., and although seen slicker and quicker apps it gets the job done.

I am going to start with the negatives…

The watch/app has notifications for missed calls, mails etc. but Casio missed a trick, its all or nothing so everything gets sent to the watch, and I mean everything. Not sure about you but the majority of my mails want me to hire a car and take Viagra. Luckily for me at this moment in time don’t have the need for either. I have notifications switched off! Many of the YouTube reviews have switched theirs off also. I should imagine with Bluetooth running the battery will not last the longest, but time will tell. For the price point I would have expected solar. In the UK the watch currently sells for £100 to £120ish. One thing I do dislike, and its a British thing, the date is month then day, and us Brits kinda hate that (well I do) we like day then month. I cant seem to change it.

And the positives…

I have seen and heard about negative displays and was told this was the best, and this one is excellent. Even in low low light its readable at almost any angle, and it has a light of course should you need that at 2am. I like the clear and simple design of the display, some Casio's a little busy for me. Its a G so 200m water resistance and tough as old boots. There are lots of colours available, 4 in the UK at the moment, black probably the best but I went for the blue. The strap and case all seem up to G-Shock standards so should last well and seem of good quality. It is my new daily watch for work, until something else catches my eye. I also like but am slightly embarrassed by my daily/monthly step count.

Thanks for taking the time reading my first watch review and would love to get some feedback. I did post this a while ago and forgot to put it in the review section, so a re-post as it were, as working towards my review badge !

Hmm, i got the gbx 100, basicaly the same module. I have not needed to link it with my cellphone to make my watch work. I was able to set it, use most functions without pairing. Of course in the meantime i ve paired it, just for the covienience not to correct the time...

I went for the pairing out of the box and realised later I could get it manually.

I would have got the bgx100 over mine, but didn't research enough! Don't know why but like the sunrise/set feature.

I was honestly looking at this watch on the Casio website before logging on WC and reading this. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your excellent tongue-in-cheek review and am glad to know that couch potatoes like myself might also find a use for this watch's functions!

Its a good watch, for me I don't use all the features, so perhaps not ideal, but for an everyday watch with great negative display I am happy. My issue is Casio keep bringing out models that catch my eye, like @Luzifugerofokale gbx100.

I went with the yellow. Wearing it right now on vacation. This is pretty much my theme park watch as I like to see how many steps I can record. I’m

Averaging about 17,000 per day.

And yes, the display is all that and a bag of chips. Just awesome.

Great review! Love the color options for the watch and how symmetrical it looks, plus the dial is very legible

Was very tempted by the yellow ! Have a great holiday Evan.

I Love mine but no for any if the functions. I have 3 reasons 1. Its big n doesn't look to wee on my 7¾" wrist. 2. It's bright yellow (casio say green - it's yella) 3. My failing eyesight doesn't struggle to see the amazing display. It's also gonna be tough as auld boots & it's just cool.

I just bought the all black version. Just love the super legible MIP display. This is just amazing. However, I don't really care about the smart watch functions.

Me neither. Great everyday watch otherwise.
