The all-black bezel GMT Master II remains a sleeper when compared to either the Pepsi or Coke versions but I think looks fab. That looks like a late model run 16710, correct? If it has the calibre 3186 (vs the 3185) then that makes it even more special since Rolex didn't produce the 16710 with that movement very long before changing to the 116710LN in 2008. What I think was cool about the 16710 is theoretically one could acquire all 3 aluminum bezel inserts (black, Coke, Pepsi) and just change them to suit your mood. With the current model that is of course impossible.

Yeah for sure. You never hear about the all black GMT master. I feel like I still like the Batman more but this one still looks awesome. I’m not sure what the specific calibre is but i know that it’s the 2004/2005 model. I didn’t know you can swap out the bezel inserts. When you do, is it permanent such as a mod?

I agree. I have an all-black 116710LN and when I bought it I was really after a Batman but the boutique I went into didn't have it so I "settled" for the all-black version. If your dad's GMT Master II is circa 2004/2005 it has the calibre 3185. The 16710 was only made with the 3186 movements for one year in 2007. I read up on the GMT Master in this great article on Fratello Watches.

The 16710 aluminum bezel inserts are essentially "interchangeable" although I'd probably never do it myself for fear of scratching. FYI Rolex never marked their aluminum bezel inserts so it's virtually impossible to distinguish authentic Rolex bezel inserts from aftermarket inserts which are popular. So be warned.

Interesting, I didn’t know about all this

I’ve been wanting a Pepsi gmt for a while now but I’d take this in a heartbeat.
