Still going through it but it's been pretty good so far.
Horology: An Illustrated Primer on the History, Philosophy, and Science of Time, with an Overview of the Wristwatch and the Watch Industry https://a.co/d/clLgunV
I got One man & his watch for Xmas last year, wasn't impressed with it TBH, but I'm not really interested in the people I'm more into the technical explanations & history.
I tend to go for older out of print stuff as I find it less patronising and less commercial than modern books - which seem more oriented towards selling something, whether it's a watch, lifestyle or image 😂
Retro Watches is fun if you're interested in them. Thames and Hudson give you a good look inside the book to see if it's for you. I believe there's a paperback version coming out mid 2024.
The best watch book I've come across is "The Wristwatch Handbook" by Ryan Schmidt. Available on Amazon for a very reasonable price, it's filled with great photos and tons of text, offering a great introduction into the world of mechanical watches. I picked this up when I first started collecting, and it provided a great base of knowledge for me that I found truly indispensable.

Less about watches, more about horology in the truest sense of the word:
Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time
Excellent read.
I found this an enjoyable and educational read

Second that. Great story.
Hands of time, great read on the history of horology by a master watchmaker

This is the one for me too! Hands of Time is great. If you want to read more than look at pics this is my recommendation.
I second this book! One of the first ones I purchased when I started my collection and one I always enjoy thumbing through!
