The two watches that were “gifted” to me by my in-laws. Not sure how much more I can take 😔

These were the lovely pieces that were offered to me over the past two days. I know they mean well, but I need to put the random watch gifting to an end. Send help!

She finds all of it hilarious! She presented me with the “geniune diamond” watch and said “oh you’re going to be excited about this one”…lets just say I wasn’t excited when I opened that watch box 🫤

Re-gift as a white elephant during Xmas

Actually not a bad idea. I left the skeleton watch behind because it was used and came with tons of grime and wrist cheese 🤮. The diamond watch is brand new in the box so that could be perfect.

I know the awkward feeling but it really is hard to squelch the good intentions. But kept in perspective, there are certainly worse things to have to deal with. 👊

I told the wife at one point that I wanted to pick my watches if she was gifting them. She could buy them but I was being a little more discerning about what I wanted to own. It was done diplomatically and she was very receptive. I show her the watches I've targeted. That message has made it to my kids and the rest of the family.

Now they do deposits into the watch funds for gifts.

It could be worse. Imagine them watching an advertisement on TV and the next thing you know there is a huge Invicta gifted to you because it has such a "wrist presence".

Funny you mention that. My Father in law has quite the Invicta collection!

Very true and they do mean well. But it’s basically one of those situations where they just like buying junk because it’s cheap (even they know it’s junk). When they accumulate too much they like to pass it off to us haha.

Everyone wins that way 👍

On a serious note, tbh, my family has done the same thing. As gaudy as these might be, non watch enthusiasts don't get it lol..

But there are faaar worse problems to have with in laws.

I'd take it as a positive thing. They actually are trying to get stuff for you, for your hobby..kind of the whole the thought that counts thing. Obviously they care about you, and want to get you items they think you would wear. They just don't know better.

@SpecKTator 's idea for a white elephant is really good, unless it'll offend. You could also save them for any kiddos down the line. My daughter would rock those watches all day long, mainly cuz they are mine, she wouldn't care what they looked like. She can't even tell time yet 😂.

I've gotten to the point where I've had the wife explain to her side of the fam I'd appreciate cash for a watch purchase, or new straps from my favorite companies to help stem the whole rando weird watch showing up as gifts. YMMV.
