Builds with Seiko logos?

Hi,

I've seen lots of Seiko mod "builds" with dials bearing Seiko branding without actually containing any genuinely Seiko parts. I recently bought a bunch of parts on AliExpress to assemble a watch, but without intending to bought a dial that says "Seiko" on it. I do not like fakes and would feel like I'm wearing a fake if I put this dial on it. Shame really 'cause I really like the style of dial...

What is your opinion on putting logos on builds?

They are undeniably fake dials. Unfortunately, a simple customer can not order OEM parts/dials from Seiko and the pool of OEM dials available on third party websites is sadly quite limited. I wish Seiko would just let us buy parts. 😭

Alternatively, you should be able to find sterile dials on Aliexpress or request an unbranded one directly from the store if you like a specific style you haven't found anywhere else. You can also print your own logo or name if they offer the service.

Some websites also sell dials with their own logo on it, but they're essentially the same Aliexpress dials with a 4-5x mark-up.

Good luck with your build! 👍

In my opinion having an NH35 movement made by Seiko (instruments?) does not qualify the assortment of parts not from Seiko to be branded Seiko...

I'd prefer it said Rolex but I understand the appeal of a sterile dial. Is it applied or printed?

It is printed.

You can always get a dial from Namoki mods or Lucius Atelier. Dagaz was also a good option but they stopped selling individual dials.

Having bought 3 of the same Seiko dial from AliExpress I believe they originate from the factory that makes them for Seiko and are “rejects”. Each one I bought had a flaw, scratch on lume, shade of dial slightly incorrect and a tiny piece of dust under the enamel. They all came from the same store.

Or they originate from a factory making fake seikos...

Anything is possible and even if they are rejects from Seiko manufacturing it doesn’t make them the real deal.

I have a Feiko dial because the seller on Ali didn't show or clearly describe it as having the logo. I've been more careful on dial purchases since then because I don't particularly like it, but I do wear the watch with the dial sometimes. It's a very nice dial. But I would NEVER attempt to sell it and will probably replace it at some point.

Yeah I understand where your coming from but with my current build I loved the dial that I didn’t care about the logo… build what you like cuz you love to build it!! Also if you figure out how to get rid of the dial logo let me know 😜

My biggest issue with dials that have a Seiko logo but aren't from Seiko is that they give me false expectations that the lume will be good haha.

But honestly if it bothers you that much AliE does have alot of sterile dials you can buy. That's the ones I go for usually. A $10-20 loss ain't bad, I've had worse building and modding watches!

I didn't read the description carefully enough and the pics didn't show the logo... Dangers of impulse buying.

Precisely, I have no problem with modding an SKX by transplanting the movement and dial to a mod case... I have done exactly that to a 5KX and have no problem with it saying Seiko on dial.
