The ‘Big One’

It’s raining and getting cold up here in Canada already. Brought out the sweaters and put away the shorts for another season, so I decided to wear the ‘Big One’ today.

The Panerai Radiomir 1940 (PAM572) is hard to miss. Clocks in at 45mm and 53mm L2L, but for some reason it works for me. The classic 1940 case is quintessentially Panerai and sports 100m WR. Although my largest watch, the lugs curve downward and wrap very comfortably around my 7.5in wrist.

What I also like about it is the in-house movement with a micro-rotar, which allows it to be only 12.2mm thick, while generating 3 days of power reserve and has a “precision?” of +3spd.

The sandwich dial is the only one in my collection. I opted for the no-date version where the seconds sub-dial somehow suits my eye without sacrificing any symmetry. At certain angles the hands almost look golden and glow.

I know the trend has been to go with smaller and smaller dials, but similar to a Charger Hellcat that’s a beast, it has incredible tech under the hood.

I think there’s still a place for big watches. And I continue to appreciate this refined brute for what it is.

7.5” wrists beg for Panerai and Breitling watches! If you can pull it off, you absolutely should.

Gorgeous watch.

Great job using the term “precision” over accuracy. 🤪😅Oh by the way, I really love that micro rotor!

I will never abandon my Breitlings and 2 Pam’s, shocked to see my 5ft 2 inch wife trying on my 44mm Luminor Marina small seconds the other day, looked pretty nice on her slender wrist. I said that we can share but not giving up anymore watches to family members. It was with reluctance that I gifted my 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 big block Chevy to my nephews who promised to restore the car to factory specs and never sell the car. I was a young man but that Chevy never lost a drag on some quiet street, embarrassed to recall the juvenile street racing.

Love my Radiomir Quaranta…. Panerai is amazing!

Beautiful watch! I’ve worn a 45 before, and I could probably get away with it. Still with this amazing looking watch, I’d not care. Goes great with that eggplant colored strap.

Came very close to getting the 40 as well! After weeks of going to Yorkdale (local mall) and trying on both, I went with the 45 because I liked how all 4 Arabic numerals looked. Salesperson definitely earned their commission with me. If I went right, instead of left I would be wearing the 40 right now.

I’m sure that Chevelle has many stories to tell!

Love the four numerals. If my wrist could have handled the bigger size I would have one as well. But when I put on the Quaranta the skies parted and angels sang. It was love at first sight! Welcome to the Paneristi!

Lol! Once we raced a guy who turned out to be a good client riding with his wife.

Nice watch! It sucks that most newer Panerai models don’t have open caseback. And those that do are at least 10k. 😩

Love Panerai! The unique design in a homogeneous watch world is refreshing. Beautiful watch! #panerai
