Malaysia Movement vs. Japanese Movement

So, for my 21st birthday my sister got me a Seiko 5 watch from Amazon. I was very excited about it until I saw Malaysia Movement on the back of it. From what I heard all Seiko watches and their movements are made in Japan. From what I read online, Seiko has outsourced their watches to be made in other countries. I guess my question is, is Malaysian Movement just as good as Japanese Movement or is it worse?

I think that there is no difference, and I think that only the 'purists' tend to talk smack about Malaysian movements without any rea research

There is nothing wrong. Seiko has been making their movements in Malaysia for many years. Especially their entry level movements like 4R series and the now discontinued 7s26 (they still make this for their entry level brands like Alba) in the Malaysian factory. I have never had any issues with my SNXS models over the many years I have owned them.

If you move to the 6R movements, they all are come from the Japan factory. Its done to keep costs down in their entry level watches.

Same movement, same machines that make the movement, same components, same QC just a different location of factory, maybe built in Malaysia for cheaper labour or energy costs or even for tax purposes. Like what's been mentioned above some purists and seiko collectors go for made in Japan, maybe some models are rarer from Japan so are more collectable. But your watch is just as good as a full blown made in Japan watch. I've got 5 made in Malaysia's n no problem.

As a Malaysian, excuse me for a moment.

Dugong basking in reflected glory 😤😎

A Seiko is a Seiko is a Seiko is a Seiko. They make some of their movements in Malaysia rather than Japan because the costs are lower. That’s it. Otherwise they’re the same. That’s the difference you’ll see in micro brands using NH movements that have either SII on the rotor (Japan) or TMI (Malaysia).

So first up, there's nothing wrong with Malaysia!

Second, the movements are the same as the ones made in Japan. Same design. Same manufacture. Just a different location. Many BMWs are made in the US and not in Germany. They're still decent cars.
