Three watch collection after 5 years in this hobby

I have been learning from all sources such as physical books, online blogs/forums about this hobby since 2017. one day i felt like wearing a watch again to tell time (which i did often till 20). I did my research and started with a few seikos (alpinist and king seiko) before deciding on a dress watch the longines for a work promotion. I have tiny wrist so prefer smaller dimension watch. i bought a few casios in between but been quiet disciplined in not buying anything for a few years. in general i prefer simple watch but wanted a world timer with family members in 4 time zones so here come a quirky two hander mido from 1990s. very low cost but tons of fun. Earlier this year, finally decided to jump for an everyday high quality watch and bought the bb58 in blue. Its my reward for my promotion this time and prob my one watch to keep forever and do everything with it. Love a laine 38 or a kudoke but wont shell out that much money for a watch. Anyone out there love smaller watches?

Great collection that covers a lot of bases!  That longines is so classy 👏👏

Think you'll stop here or hunting for the next one?

I tend to stop when i find one that works for all of my need which i think the bb58 will last me a long time. I still enjoy reading and appreciating fine watch making (think guillloche dial, enamel dial, crazy clock from indy makers).

Congrats for the promotion. You have a very classy taste for watches. I like elegant and small watches too. For example, I own a Nomos Club in 36mm, a Rolex Datejust 1603 in 36mm, and a Hamilton Khaki Chrono in 38mm, among other more affordable watches.

Have you had any problems with the non-sapphire crystal from the Longines? Ive never had a problem with the one in my Datejust which is not made of sapphire either. I really liked the 36mm Conquest Heritage in black when I tried it on some time ago, its a beautiful piece.

I also would like to point out how cool that Mido is, Ive never seen it before.

No problems w the crystal. I did hit door and side of table with it before with minimal scratch that dont bother me much. I considered a club before but they didnt come out w a blue club and orange hands till this year with the special Ace jewellery edition. Yeah the mido ref is 5200 and it uses the crown to change the time zone along with the bezel. The tiny extra hand acts like a day and night indicator. I used to own a casio casino royale too but lost it in a hiking trip outdoor due to a broken rubber strap!

You can always get a new Royale 😂 they are super affordable but so well built! Mine was a gift from my girlfriend. Also, the way that Mido works is really cool. I should probably check out that Conquest again, its very nice indeed. Enjoy your collection!

Great collection. I have large wrists, but wear a watch as small as 34mm sometimes. No one says your watches have to be any size at all... wear what you like :)

·

I love your choices.  I wish that I had your discipline.

Thought experiment: If you are going to spend the next week working on a project that will require you to use a machete, shovel, and pick-axe, which of these would you choose to wear? If none, what would you buy?

I have a casio f91w for rougher activities but i could wear the tudor too.

Typically I like my watches between 38mm and 42mm with a lug to lug under 48mm. However, I have been seriously considering picking up a mill spec Benrus that restoring it. I think they are 34mm but if that's big enough for Bullitt it's big enough for me lol.

Try it on in person first if possible. i find that some watches at 34-35mm can look large if its all dial and no bezel like the max bill or nomos watches. I love a no nonsense high visibility watch as well for casual setting.

Sadly it will be a eBay purchase as where I love cool watches are nearing extinction.

Just 3 watches! some of us on a bad willpower day might gain that many.

Kudos on a small but beautiful collection.

Kudos on a small but beautiful collection.

I used to collect vintage cameras and learnt to slow down my purchases from that hobby. Ended up with 3 cameras from 10 cameras over 10 years period and live happily ever after. Hope to keep my watch collection to 3 max.

All three great choices. Three well made watches with three very different style. Kudos.

A great place to be after a few years! The blue bb58 never disappoints

Initially i thought i didnt like the diver style watch. I much prefer the fun of a chrono. However i went to a store and tried on and couldnt get the bb58 out of my head. Everything feels right on the wrist. debated for a few months then jumped on to it and happy w it since.

What an awesome trio!

When I started out in all this, nearly 30 years ago, I loved smaller watches. I had a Tag 1500 mid size (36mm), I had a small Tag S/EL (before it was called Link) and my dream watch at the time was the mid-size Omega Seamaster Pro. Fell in love with it after seeing Golden Eye in the theatre. So yes, those product placements work...

But then the internet started and Panerai burst on the scene. That was the end of small watches for me and since then I have owned countless Omegas, as well as watches from 41mm all the way up to 50mm. Including some behemoth Panerais of my own.

Lately, however, I have been trending downwards. Having owned a Damasko DA42, a Sinn 105GMT and not this Titoni Seascoper, mind you the latter is still a large watch at 42mm. I have a 40mm Zenea diver on the way, which should be here tomorrow.

Not sure if I could ever go back to under 40mm. At 48, my eyesight may not permit it, but I am much more about comfort, proportions and quality now. Much more than cuff eating monsters.

Anyway, I rambled on enough. You seem to be doing it right. Enjoy your amazing watches and keep sharing your passion!

Im liking the bigger size now too. Always want to try a sinn 104/105 but havent had a chance to see them in person. I really like the 856 my friend has, look tough as a nail.

I also liked the omega diver 36mm a lot a few years back but now i think a watch with any bezel like a diver or a chrono should be a bit bigger so they are more legible.
