Both lovely watches. I think the Smiths looks better and does have a sort of history that Lorier doesn't . I've always wondered why new watch makers of vintage designs don't buy up vintage trademarks?

I own the Lorier and it's a fantastic watch. I don't own the Smiths. However, I can tell you that the folks at Lorier (Lorenzo & Lauren) are great to work with and take care of their customers; the gentleman at Timefactors is a nightmare and treats his customers poorly (from everything that I've read). If you believe in "buying the seller," then Lorier is the way to go.

Smiths, faux-historic brand would get my vote over a homage microbrand. 🤔

There is no wrong choice here. Missed out on both watches recently.

I have the Smiths, I liked the hand set better. If I could see the Lorier in person, my mind could change.

How? The Lorier are not available any more? I know the Smiths are produced in small quantities, but still possible to buy if ready by the date stated on their website…

Support Lorenzo and Lauren with the Lorier. They are next level with customer service and have earned my respect.

Ah, you're right, I meant to say I missed out in the Lorier Astra recently.

I feel like in terms of "heritage" it's a wash, because Smiths is basically a trademark that was acquired. So without that you're left with the customer experience (Lorier wins) quality (have only handled the Lorier, but I have another of theirs and it's lovely) and the design (For my money, Lorier feels like less of an Explorer homage. Obviously both are doing their "Explorer" but Lorier feels "inspired" while Smiths feels like a re-issue. Also, FWIW, why doesn't the Smiths look like... a Smiths? Why would their "Everest" watch look like a Rolex?)

The Lorier has a more modern vibe and I love the honeycomb dial. I absolutely abhor Smiths practice of selling very limited batches at ungodly hours. This just encourages flippers who take advantage of the system and has completely turned me off the brand.

Dont you think this kinda behaviour gives more value to the watch? for example its more struggle to get one, but easier to sell after? Share your thoughts on this

No, it's my humble opinion that a watch's value should never be more than MSRP. Once it leaves the manufacturer/AD, then it's nothing more than an used watch and its price should be depreciated accordingly. The attitude that a watch should be more valuable because it's harder to obtain just encourages flippers to actually make it much harder to obtain to take advantage of ordinary people who just want a chance to add a nice watch to their collection.

So I like the looks of both of these but the size are too small for my taste. I would lean towards the Lorier as far as the look. Sapphire would be nice though.

Can I choose both?
