Laco Stuttgart Pro 40mm (Top Spec)

I would like to find out what do you all think abouth this piece. Which one do you prefer more (Date/No Date, Bright or Dark date?)

Is this watch worth collecting? Always wanted to have a Pilots Watch. Im that type of person who thinks its better to over pay once and appreciate the watch rather then go for something cheaper and regret…

I know you all will speak about the budget, and in ref to the pilots watches my number one choice is IWC of course, but the price is like x5 and in some cases even more 😄

So maybe you can suggest something instead.

Also im not sure if watches based on Non in House movements are any good or collectable 🤔

Let me know you thoughts

It doesn't need to be difficult. Do you like it? Is it the design or the brand? Do you see yourself wearing it? Are you ok with its heritage? If yes, go for it.

My preference would be a no date, but if there needs to be a date I would like it to be colour matched.

But personally I would never go for a Laco or IWC due to their heritage (Luftwaffe) and I simply will not wear a n..i watch. So I would look for a flieger style watch by Vertex, CWC or someone else since you're spoiled for choice nowadays.

The no date is the Laco I'd go for. It's a great watch. But personally prefer Stowa.

Can you share you opinion why stowa?)

The classic flieger design never had a date complication (you don’t need to know the date when piloting bombers), but it is a modern convenience for desk pilots and desk divers like us. If you can choose, dark date always. It just looks so much better integrated, much less of an afterthought.

About the movement, think that this snobbery regarding in-house movements is a relatively new phenomenon. Manufacturers used to buy and sell parts to each other routinely until not long ago. Facts like Rolex used El Primero movements for the first Daytonas, or that Jaeger-LeCoultre was “the watchmaker’s watchmaker” still resonate today. An ETA 2824 in the back of the watch might not be the peak of originality, but sure any decent watchmaker will be able to service the movement when the time comes. And if they can’t service it, they will just order one at the factory and install it without much hassle.

I'd pick the black date wheel, since I like a date on my watches, and I dislike mismatched date wheels.

As for "collectable", it's safe to say that 95% of watches aren't going to go up in value or be "collectable". Buy a watch because you want to wear it, buying it for any other reason is throwing away money.

Absolutely NO DATE

It ruins the watch!!

I definitely prefer no date whenever possible.

A dark date 43mm pro is on my list. Fantastic watch

I own a Stuttgart Pro 40mm. I love it 2000%. You won’t regret it. Looking at the Laco lineup there was always something that was missing from each watch. The Pro series changes all of that. It was customized with the best of each line up.

I went with black date and no branding.

I would also like to say that the dial on the Laco is superb… the lume and text are unmatched. They look absolutely crisp and clean. I find the other competitors dials not as nice.

I Compared the super macro close up shots on YouTube videos. The Laco dial and numbering look superior! It doesn’t look like it has messy lume either. In fact it looks flat and doesn’t even had lume

Dark Date and you have a watch that's good to go for anything besides diving and chronograph-ing
