SOTC 2023

Inspired by all the SOTC posts I’ve been seeing on here so I thought I’d add my own. Currently 14 pieces, and thinking of:

  1. Adding the steel oxblood Oris Big Crown Pointer Date.

  2. Trading the Omega Speedmaster “First Omega In Space” for the latest sapphire Co-Axial Master Chronometer Moonwatch Professional. I only want one Omega watch so I thought it should be the brand’s most well-known “flagship” watch.

I have a below-average wrist size, so all the watches are ≤ 41mm.

The collection

  1. Rolex Datejust 36mm 126200

  2. IWC Pilot Spitfire 39mm

  3. Omega Speedmaster “First Omega In Space”

  4. JLC Reverso 250.8.86 (my only true vintage)

  5. Grand Seiko SBGY029 (London boutique edition)

  6. Grand Seiko SBGJ251

  7. Grand Seiko SBGA413

  8. Casio G-Shock × Hodinkee Ed Sheeran 😂

  9. Rado HyperChrome Captain Cook 1962

  10. Baltic Aquascaphe

  11. Tudor Black Bay 54

  12. Junghans Max Bill Bauhaus

  13. Hamilton Intra-Matic

  14. Orient Bambino v2

It’s a great collection. Some fantastic pieces there and I think you’ve covered all the bases. I keep thinking of suggestions and then realising you already have one. Maybe take a break?!

Yep, I reached my ideal collection pretty quickly. Besides the two potential moves in the next few years mentioned above, nothing has caught my attention.

A field watch.

Also a blue watch but this is me...

Congratulations on the collection. The spitfire looks 🔥

·

My top three favorites here: the Max Bill, the Hamilton and the G-Shock. Awesome watches💪

·

That is an awesome collection - perfectly balanced. Love that vintage JLC.

·

Awesome !!!

·

I'm thinking that you could use some colour. It's a very classy collection but the classics are by definition safe with their black, white and blue dials.

·

Great idea, great collection.

To stick to your options, I would trade the Omega.

However, if I am allowed, I would rather get rid of that G-Shock to replace it with some other model (even another, but more “serious”, G-Shock).

Great collection 🤩

Is it just me or is this a youtube inspired selections? 😄

Care to offer your thoughts on the iwc spitfire? I have that model on my wishlist if i skip the Laco pro i am thinking about getting. Thanks 🤗

Would you believe me if I told you that I got most of these pieces through careful research and friends’ suggestions just before YouTube picked up on them? 😂 I do see your point, though, as many of these are quite popular.

My thoughts on the IWC Spitfire: I like the size and the simplicity of the dial, and — I have to admit — this was a brand name purchase. I knew I wanted an IWC watch, but had limited options given my smaller wrist. Of the available options, the Spitfire spoke to me the most; I also considered the Pilot 36, but preferred the army green strap and faux patina.

If you just want a pilot’s watch without consideration for the brand, get the Laco, as the Spitfire will cost you a hefty premium comparatively. But if you like the Spitfire for what it is, then I suppose only the Spitfire would do.

I Believe you 😉

Thank you for the iwc spitfire review. I do not currently own a pilot's watch and i like the aesthetic. On some research, i found that laco and iwc were one of the first brands to manufacture this dial design. I was going to go for laco because it was the oldest but the iwc comes with in house movement that's why it is giving me pause and re-evaluating my choice. You're right though, there is a hefty price difference. Maybe i should just pick the Laco since the dial design and heritage is the majority of what im after. Thanks again. 🤗

Great collection 👌🏻

Love that you have heavy hitters on the same bench as entry-level all stars. Very down to earth.

·

That’s a great collection. I would want to add a blue watch or three. The JLC Polaris is pretty affordable on the used market compared to it’s MSRP. And it looks great in blue. It would really pop with the rest of your pieces.

·

Whoa awesome collection! You might be done here 😉

·

Gonna give you 9/10 here for this. Lovely 🙌

But you lost out on 10/10 because not all set perfectly to same time and date. 👀😂
