Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

When my father passed away in 2015, I inherited a couple of old Elgin pocket watches as well as a vintage Hamilton wrist watch. Knew nothing about them besides the fact that I was fascinated by mechanical watches. One thing led to another and now I find myself reading about watches, watch history and watch maintenance on a daily basis.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

Had the itch to buy a "nice" everyday dress watch in 2012 when I worked in a corporate environment, so I took advantage of a trip to Europe to purchase a Raymond Weil Maestro silver dial. Still own it and wear it to church etc. Slick dial design.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

Vintage Hamilton (vietnam spec) inherited from my dad when he passed away. He was a flight sergeon in the US Navy and served in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970. Didn't know he even owned the watch until after he had passed.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Collect the watches that speak to you and stir an emotion. Specs and comfort are important especially in an everyday watch but don't become obsessed with them or branding. So much to discover in this world so don't be narrow-minded to only "name brands".

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Sinn, Damasko, Traska, Smiths.... hard to keep up with this list lol

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

Sinn U50. The distinct design (hands etc) is eye catching, reduced proportions while maintining excellent water resistance and a classically German attention to detail and engineering make it my perfect watch. ironically, I usually steer towards more vintage style design but this one just makes me nuts.
