Mark of Character?

So, it finally happened. After three years, I got my first real scratch on my speedy pro. It’s very small and no one will be able to tell. But you know how those little scratches feel like burn marks on your brain. 😩 They say scratches give your watches character. Sure, go ahead and tell yourself that. Oh well, life happens. Don’t worry, I’m OK. I’ll survive. No sympathy cards necessary. 😂

As a fellow WIS I offer my sincere sympathy 🙏

WIS?

My simpathies Tony, no scratch hurts like the first one... Yes they lend character and history to the piece, but in the end, your pristine watch is no more. More will follow and eventually bother less, but this one is always tough - especially if it doesn't have a story to justify it.

·

Just look at it like Jason Momoa's eyebrow scar. Doesn't hurt the looks of your watch one bit and you just made yours that much cooler by... I want to say 13 percent. 👍

True. NO story with this one. Don’t even know when it happened. LOL

*first of many 😊

·

It gives character and makes it unique @tonysutherland .

Here is an excellent read about scratches, which I fully embrace Imagehttps://www.g-peopleland.com/wabi.html

Scratches are good. Particularly as, when you get it polished, the contrast will look that much better :)

·

For those unfamiliar with the concept of wabi sabi, it helps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi

·

I don't have to tell myself it's character. I say embrace it. Going on 25 years my possession and lots of well earned scratches along the way.

I get you, the first scratch is always the hardest. Yet, if you love the watch, they become stories not scratches. My 116610LV has a scratch on the clasp, noticed it after my oldest daughters wedding. Now every time I see it I think of my big girl😭. It will never get polished. Nor will any other of my watches that bare the marks of my life.

Actually…this is the story,”the time I scratched my speedy and shared it with my WC peeps”…memories 😁

I feel ya. I got mystery scratches on some of my nice watches. I was like WTF. But probably happened when I took a tissue out of the box and blew my nose. Otherwise it’s a mystery mark. Go figure.

Finally it's yours. Until now it could've been anyone's but you have put your signature to it and no one else has one like it. Congratulations on your 1 of 1! 😂

Barely visible ;)

My brain will never unsee it. LOL

I completely understand! I also chuckle then cry on the inside when people give the old "character" line. I like my watches and cars with as little of that kind of "character" as possible. 🙂

But it's bound to happen and in the end the experiences are still worth it.

Agree 💯

·

I too prefer characterless watches😖

Exactly. I think I’ll survive but dang it. LOL

In three years? That's nothing, enjoy it!
