Tinnitus watch today! I am genuinely considering servicing it myself, as one of the only watch makers in Norway who services these quoted me €1000. Like, why not try first?🫣

Looks great Tobias! And with another 1,000 euros you could purchase another watch 😉.

Thanks! Yes, exactly, and a nice one too!

Have you ever serviced a tuning fork watch? They require a special set of knowledge. This is also why it is so expensive to service since there are less and less watchmakers with the proper skill set.

No, I haven’t. I am a self-learing hobbyist, so I will have to be careful. I am well aware of what to do and not, so I think I should be able to do it. If not, it’s my own fault, and I’ll have to decide whether to send it in or not!

It’s part of learning, and in a perfect world I’ll be able to service other’s watches too.

This may help.

He teaches how to service the bulova 214 model. The one in your watch is a 218 (Universal Geneve licensed the movement from bulova) it's slightly different but is the same principle.

Thanks! That's good to have. I also managed to find this manual, which I think I'll have to follow step by step..

Tinnitus watch! 😂

I wish someone in marketing had leaned in to the Tuning Fork mov't back in the day and named it the UG Tinnitus.

The only reason I call it that is because it needs a service, and I reckon the old oil braking the movement is creating a ~8900hz sound beside the beautiful 360hz these are known for.

OK - I assumed that you were referring to the usual hummmm they're known for ... that's sorta what I imagine tinnitus sounds like. 🤷🏻

I wouldn’t know, thankfully! But yes, that 360hz is just a bliss to listen to, imo. The issue is that high frequency which almost always blocks that out😞Would be so happy if just a «quick» service helped

... sounds like you've named it well!
