Parts or preserve?

I had purchased this old Seiko 5 with the intention of gutting it primarily to use the dial in a build project. However, I’m having second thoughts. It seems to be running relatively well and well I kinda like the 70s/80s vibe. Thoughts?

This place has vintage Seiko guys that would shed tears over that. There are better aftermarket dials out there.

Went this route mainly bc I couldn’t find a yellow gold day date sunburst after market dial. However, I assumed this was a non runner for the price.

Will have to think on it as it does need a service and I have a few I need to service already.

That AliExpress one is not quite gold enough but I think this one is safe, found a nato that makes it a keeper.

I think it looks great as it is (maybe a bracelet change though). Not all vintage/old stuff needs updating. If we did that to everything, we’d have no history 😉

Well I think it's just a SNXS81 which can still be purchased on a few sites for a reasonable price so likely isn't vintage it just has a vintage look to it. I will say it is extremely comfortable on the wrist so I may just keep it as is and enjoy the fact I only paid $15 for it.

I think that’s an excellent idea and certainly a bargain. Sometimes it’s the cheapest things in life that give you the most enjoyment 👏🏻

I would never butcher a working Vintage watch. But it’s your watch. do whatever the hell you want to do.

Well this one isn't really what I would consider vintage (can still be bought on jomashop) just used with a vintage look. I have a couple vintage restoration projects underway and the goal there is to keep them as close to original as possible so totally agree.
