Can easily get a Seiko Presage in your price range online new or used.

I prefer the Orient Bambino over an Orient Star. You could spend $100 extra on a sapphire crystal mod if you'd like.

Tissot Visodate should be available in this price, as should a Quartz PRX.

Vintage you can get a lot. I recently picked up an Oris Alarm Watch from the 1990s where they took some old Schild alarm stock and cased them up and sold them. It was for around your budget plus it has a mechanical alarm!

It costs under $1k for sure. Most costs are corporate overhead, marketing, warranty, etc.

Maybe a company selling $10k watches has an RnD section, but you didn't include that. I'd add $1k per watch sold for that budget

Tissot has a few: Porto and the Banana (that's a cool one)

Longines Evidenza (a bit more expensive but can be found for good discounts online and used)

The Turn-O-Graph. They go for pretty low on the used market and have a nice look to them

It's largely the inability to meet demand that makes us want other watches. I hate the waiting list game. It's just that simple. Sub is a great watch, the game you have to play to get one is idiotic

Submariner is one of the most classic best looking luxury watches. I'd love one. BUT I hate the degrading AD experience, and I'd just rather get another of the myriad competitor luxury dive watches instead of endorse that stuff with my money.

My grandfather wears an Invicta Pro Diver and loves that thing. It's the bluesy version. Awesome watch!
