I turn 40 this August and I wanted to get something special to mark the occasion. I looked at 5 digit Subs, and its a great watch but I like my BB58 more. Exp II's from the 90's were also in the mix but I have an Omega Great White GMT that fills that role. I hardly travel so I really don't need a GMT anyway. I really couldn't decide so I just stopped buying watches and kept saving.
A few month ago I broke my buying freeze, since a buddy was in Houston and could get a Moonswatch at retail. While the moonswatch is extremely cheap, I loved the dims and the look. I started my hunt for a 1983 birth year Speedy. Saturday night I messaged a seller on Chrono24 and yesterday Fedex dropped it off.
I love it and its everything I was hoping for. I have a link on order for the bracelet, since I had to adjust it all the way out, but to be honest its going to probably be on straps most of the time. I may take some Polywatch to the crystal but I really don't mind the scratches, as they add to the patina. I plan on having it serviced by my local watchmaker in the next few months, but only the movement, the 40 years of scratches and bumps are staying.

Nice👍
Congrats on the purchase.
My first (and only) luxury watch is my birthyear Speedy and I love it. How is the bracelet on yours? Looks great!

Did you look into how much a link would cost? I always fear the price of vintage OEM pieces haha

I have one on the way from Hong Kong... $40 used from ebay. I am hoping that's the only one Ill need. I could get an uncle straps version of this bracelet for $90. Haha.

TBH that's not as bad as I thought it would be.
And that's my thought exactly! I would like to imagine that the OEM one would be of better quality, however a hard choice to make.

Honestly the Uncle Straps is probably much better quality. I have a Forstner on my Seamaster and its extremely better quality than the stock bracelet. I just really like the feel of the oem bracelet on the speedy. I bought it because its an 83, I want it to look and feel like an 83.
It is a great looking watch..I quite looking for a 'birth year' watch I think it would have to be a 'sun dial' on my wrist..LOL
I'd love a birth-year Speedy.
I was born in 1969.
Pretty certain nothing significant happened with the Speedmaster in 1969...
Born in 1957. Was there anything Speedmaster related that year? 🤣

1957 was the first year actually..... Just need a few million to make that happen.

Nothing comes to mind....
Congrats, it’s beautiful. Had been eyeing one for years; never pulled the trigger and almost forgot about it but recently I can’t stop looking at them 😍

I am aware. I was trying for droll. I'll never have a birth year Omega, I'm quite sure.
