Just purchased my first vintage timepiece! - King Seiko 5626-7000 from 1971

After owning a few modern vintage inspired pieces, I was feeling the itch to get a true vintage piece from Seiko’s storied rivalry between Grand Seiko and King Seiko. It also serves as a great companion piece to my 44GS cased Grand Seiko SBGA375. Im looking forward to photographing these side by side.

I felt like I couldn’t do too much damage with buying something at less than $500, but I guess we’ll see when I receive it from Japan. It’s apparently working fairly well which should be good enough for my watchmaker to regulate.

I’ll keep everyone updated when it finally arrives! Wish me luck.

Excellent piece! I love the vintage Seiko designs of the 60s and 70s. I have my eye on a gold-plated 45KS no-date, and I must admit I have to admire the self-winding functionality of the 56KS. I feel like these watches don’t get enough credit for how cool they are! Especially for the price! I’d much rather have these instead of similarly priced modern pieces.

Awesome watch! Keep posting vintage Seikos! May I ask where you bought this one? As the saying goes for vintage: “buy the seller, not the watch”.

Thanks! I bought it on eBay. I'm going to wait to receive it before recommending the seller.

The good thing is, the unpolished, sharper edged examples are cheaper than the polished refurbished ones. I'll definitely keep you posted.

Very nice. I searched for a birth year watch (69) and found this one I liked on the Recon. 40mm and really nice shape for $300.  Works just fine but I plan to have it gone through. Ladder bracelet does not fit me, so I might have it sized for my 10 yr old son who digs it.

I just bought one myself. Do you notice that the rotor is loud. I haven’t owned an automatic watch before and I was wondering if it is normal or if I should bring it to a watchmaker
