Anyone into pocket watches?

Who doesn’t love a white-tie event or formal function? For me attending such is always a good excuse to wear the most formal attire and proudly rock a pocket watch few times a year.

The one showcased in these picture is the Tissot Savonnette Automatic from their T-Pocket collection. Here’s a short video review:

I always love pulling out my pocket watch when wearing my Mess Uniform. It makes the process of getting into it worth the effort!

Excellent! 👏👏👏👏

Now thanks to your post, I’m quite motivated to wear mine to the SSSH watch boutique grand opening at Taipei 101 next month!

Aren't watches in general considered bad manners in white-tie and black-tie events?

If you are a strict purist, yes they should be avoided especially wrist watches. I have personally wore pocket watches at both black-ties and white-ties. The pocket watch remains mostly in the vest pocket and the chain is part of the overall ensemble. There’s diverse opinions on the matter. Having attended quite few of these over the past years, I can confidently say that I always been amongst the ones adhering and complying the strictest with the dress code compared to others. I wouldn’t shy away from wearing it again with a tailcoat.

I always wanted a pocket watch but never really got to it.

Love the Tissot Savonnette you have there. 💪

I definitely love vintage pocket watches. Think they are the way to go for occasional wear.

But in all honesty I only wear one about once a year.

Much of the pleasure is not in the wearing but in admiring the movement and the craftsmanship. They really cared about the finishing on these.

I rock a pocket watch now and then. Fun fact: the so-called "change pocket" aka the smallest pocket, is actually for pocket watches. Which makes sense since jeans were invented before wrist watches became common.
