People talk about doing this, and while the principle of downsizing to be able to afford one super nice watch makes sense, I can't imagine how boring and limiting that would get. I by no means have a massive collection, but I do have enough to keep things interesting. I can't speak for everyone, but my tastes and preferences change often. Having a little bit of variety gives me some flexibility to alternate between a sporty/tool look, casual/snazzy look, etc. when I feel like it.
I tried this once, I removed all my watches (only about ten) and placed them in a wardrobe
I then wore my Seiko Alpinist SARB017 for five days Straight.
Bear in mind I’m 60 now and I remember the days in the 1960’s and 70’s where most people only had one watch, so it’s not something I’ve not experienced before.
in all honesty, if I only had one watch, I could probably plod on with it, however once you get used to a choice of watches you’ve probably spent a long time obtaining, and in all probability not an insignificant amount of cash, I personally would find it hard to go back to a one watch existence.

end result…… watches now freed from wardrobe.
I was a one watch man for almost a decade before my interest developed into collecting. I miss those simpler days, but you're absolutely right, the variety is too appealing to go back now
Proud sasquatch-kin of the exclusive Hairy Wrists Club. I'm a big fan of vintage ana-digi's and I also enjoy fixing up faulty quartz watches, both analog and digital.
Really? I'm the wrong guy. Just bought 2 more.
What's yours?
Cheers!
Uh, no one on a watch site has that kind of self-discipline. Lol
There was a gentleman on here who started his profile without owning any watches. Then he finally got one, and to my recollection never expanded.
I’ll be buggered to remember any actual helpful details, but I swear I’m not a liar, they do exist.
There is a current thread on one forum I visit where a guy has reduced his collection to a single Rolex Pepsi.
Nice watch but I couldn’t do that.

Nice watch but I couldn’t do that.
I did the opposite. I bought a 16750 GMT (Pepsi) in 1983 and wore it exclusivel until a year or so ago when I started buying watches.
The GMT Master is a pretty good GADA watch, and I could definitely live with it as my one watch collection again, I just choose not to.

I want to move to a one watch collection. But I am not sure I can do it. It would make things a lot easier that’s for sure
