Daini Elnix Electonic

A new watch in the collection. I just couldn't resist when I saw it. The price was excellent and it is all original and had a service a couple of years ago. The linen dial is a real stunner!

It is from february 1974 and runs at <+1min/day.

Seiko entered the electronic watch market later than their domestic rival, as they focused on developing the Astron quartz watch during that decade. However, in 1967, they launched the El-370 Electronic Series, marketed in the USA as futuristic timepieces. These watches featured the 3700 series of transistorized balance movements, serving as a temporary solution while quartz technology was still developing. The EL-370's were later replaced by the Elnix series in 1974, featuring Seiko's last iteration of the transistorized balance movement, the 0703A.⠀⠀⠀

The Elnix model line appeared in the 1974, 1975 and 1976 domestic Seiko catalogues but by 1977, all traces had vanished.⠀⠀⠀

These timepieces deserve recognition, not only for their timeless style and unique character but also for their significant contribution to the evolution of horology, although sadly, they have been largely forgotten or overlooked.

Not heard of the transistorized balance before, sounds different to the tuning fork movement. Interesting stuff, & good looking watch. Cheers mate 👍🏻

Cool watch, thank you for the little history lesson on Seiko electronic watches!

Seiko's Elnix electronic watches are so neat. It's really unfortunate that Seiko abandoned the technology and that they're basically forgotten today. Perhaps they might have gained a little more traction if they weren't exclusively JDM's. As a consequence they're pretty rare, but (possibly because of their obscurity) not all that expensive compared to some other vintage Seikos interestingly enough.

I happen to own an Elnix SG 0723-6010. It's worth noting that they actually date back to at least 1973. Mine has a serial number indicating that it was made in April of that year.

Really pretty! I find the Elnix series is something very special - hope i find another one in near NOS-Condition🙏! Also that it does not tick, but that the hands moves like on a automatic

That's a beaut. I'm really interested in the story of the transition from mechanical to quartz.

They tried all sorts of hybrids. I've got an elnix, a couple of Timex electric and an accutron. Some clever people beavering away just so we didn't have to keep winding our watches every day.
