Seiko Prospex Special Edition SRPF79 Review - my only Seiko (so far)

The Seiko Prospex Special Edition SRPF79 stands out as a singular choice in my current Seiko collection. With its unmistakable design, this watch is a head-turner that represents the best of Seiko's ocean/arctic inspired special editions. The captivating dial is the star of the show, showcasing a craftsmanship that makes the watch worth acquiring for that feature alone.

The SRPF79 also steps up its game with a sapphire crystal, which not only elevates its aesthetic appeal but also its durability. When it comes to the value proposition, the SRPF79 hits a sweet spot in pricing, a commendable feat given the increasing prices of other Seiko models.

In terms of functionality, the lume is exceptionally bright and enduring, making readability in low-light conditions a non-issue. Comfort is also paramount with this model; the silicon band is a joy to wear, offering a snug fit without the heft that often comes with steel bands. This makes the watch feel at home on the wrist, despite its substantial 43mm size - which, while not small, is a testament to its presence and might sway buyers looking for something less conspicuous.

As a call 🤙 to fellow Seiko owner, I'm eager to see your photos and hear the stories behind your Seiko watches.

Comparatively, while there are numerous other watch brands with compelling offerings, the SRPF79, as an overall package, holds its ground remarkably well. It's a challenge to pinpoint another Seiko that offers such a complete experience at this price point, making it a standout in the brand's extensive catalog.

For those contemplating the 'price of admission' into the Seiko universe, models like the SRPF79 make a strong case. It's a watch that offers a balance of aesthetic charm, functionality, and comfort, all wrapped up with a value-conscious price tag. Share your thoughts and experiences, and let's discuss which Seiko models have earned their place on your wrist.

Not the best pic, but I do love the samurai range. The one on the nylon is my saltwater/fishing watch and the other is a general wear (still not convinced about the blob on the glass, but too chicken to remove it)

Here is my current seiko collection. My favourite watch would be either the marine master 1000m tuna or the spb 147 both are great to wear and have enough details on them to keep you interested in looking at it. Just got the king tuna padi and again it’s a typical Seiko diver. Large dial good lug to lug easy to read and comfortable. The skx 009 is a classic for all the above reasons

Just not getting the Willard

Is that the flighmaster? I totally should have gotten one when I had the chance 😭

Indeed. I’m a huge fan, it’s the perfect chronograph for me. Works great on the bracelet, this suede strap, and nylon MN straps

I instead got a Nautica Chronograph. Have it till now for 16+ years. I absolutely love it, but I wonder what if I got the other or both 🤔

Why did you give the movement a 3.0? What is the accuracy?

Not any particular reason. I loved the dial, so I got it. From online it seems the accuracy is -45 to +30 sec a day. Not the best, but I have a cellphone for my timekeeping 🤣

What watch is the left most?

That’s a king turtle padi SRPG19J1. It’s on a crafter blue strap
